Hello All:

Due to a potential conflict with new software [see recent post from a couple
of days ago "citrix"], I need to switch out my existing SBS2000 external NIC
with a new one of a different brand as a troubleshooting tool. The internet
access on this server has been fine and solid so i want to be sure not to
screw up the internal NIC, binding order or other critical settings.

Googling produced lots of helpful messages regarding the internal NIC and
for adding an additional NIC but I didn't find clear directions for swapping
the external NIC out.

Attempting to create an amalgam of the instructions that seemed relevant
lead to these steps:

01) record current binding settings
02) power down server
03) install new External NIC (as an additional NIC)
04) power up server, let PNP configure card/drivers
05) configure new External NIC on a different subnet
06) remove old NIC via device manager - don't restart, even if asked
07) reconfigure new Extenral NIC into the old subnet.
08) reboot
09) run Internet Connection Wizard (?)
10) check binding order, adjust (if necessary) to reflect original settings

Does that list sound correct? Any recommended changes?

Thanks in advance.

I record the ip, subnet and gateway of the old external nic. Turn off
the computer and yank out the old, install the new. Turn on and setup
the new nic. You may get a warning about the ip used but you can
ignore. You may or may not have to reboot. Before you reboot check
that the internal nic is at the top of the binding order. Other usual
things like disabling netbios.

Thanks for the reply!
You wouldn't run the internet connection wizard again?
