This question doesn't relate entirely to sbs2000, but it does relate to
domain management on a sbs2k domain.

I am setting up a WinXP Pro station with RDC at the office for users to
login to to do some work. However, I noticed that if someone tries to login
while another session is in progress, the first session is dropped without
warning. Is there a way to restrict rdc so that if someone is already
logged in, no other connections are allowed?

Thanks,
Joe Letter.

There IS a warning to the user trying to usurp the computer from the
currently logged-on user...just not to the user who gets usurped ;^)

Not when we try it there's not. Just the usual login screen...

Hmm . . . there should be.

If User1 is logged in to the PC and User2 attempts to log in via RDC - User2
will get a warning that User1 is currently logged in to the PC and
continuing may result in User1 losing data. User1 (logged in locally) never
gets a warning that someone is trying to connect, just User2 getting a
warning that someone is logged in already. Note that this message appears
*after* User2 has entered their Username & password. This is because if
User1 was logged in locally and then attempted to log in to the same PC via
Remote Desktop, they'd be connected to their current session.

So, are you testing with different user accounts?

Hmmm.. I am using the same user account... and would prefer to use the same
user account, because I want the same, exact look and feel for everyone that
uses the computer.

Nope, we use the same accounts to logon that are used locally - stuck with
this due to certain crappy banking software we have to use... we too would
welcome a slight change in RDP to prevent multiple concurrent logon
attempts...

Hi Joe -

What about copying your current user profile and pasting over the top of the
default user profile for that machine? Then each user that logs into that
machine would have their own local profile created - from the default
profile, which is what you want everyone to have anyway . . . and that would
prevent this issue . . .

Hhmm.. That method only copies historical data. The profile needs to be the
same for all users at all times. That is why I was only logging in with one
account. But using one account with rdc doesn't provide any way of telling
if anyone else is currently logged in. Is there a solution?

Maybe I could use some connection sensing tool.

Also I was almost certain that there are ms terminal service security
policies that can be changed to more finely controll the way rdc works.
