    - Offline Files Problem What is the proper procedure to delete a folder\file that is available offline? We have a My Documents redirection to a network sare (Users Home Directory) and while ONLINE we delete the folder and when we logoff it's copied back up to the network share. It's making us crazy.     - What to choose? Hello, We have limited knowledge of servers and software today. We ever managed to install NT SBS 4.5 and we are willing to do this again with new server and software. We are not complete i**** but we want to do it ourselves. Afaik, we run a compaq having SBS45 having NT 4.00.1381 We also run a webserver, this one is to be replaced soon. Actually we where looking for a webserver but potentially we also would like it as fileserver. This might conflict with the existing server? So for extended webservices a breed of Windows Server 2003 seems an option. But since ever the fileserver matter comes into play, i focussed on SBS 2003 instead. We have a small company (<20) Our requirements is: 1) Webserver supporting ASP (IIS?) 2) In the future able to convert our .MDB databases to sql server (in a year or so) 3) Must handly proxy 4) Windows 98 is mostly used, we have a few XP (home+server) versions. 5) We don't have this currently, we need to access outlook via internet connection, not RAS This would be VPN right? Not intended as webbased but direct access. Our current webserver is a slow machine running IIS, when we want to access the files via Windows Explorer, it can take up to 30 seconds before icons are drawn. This is a reason to use an additional server as fileserver. Question is if this is being solved when we use a computer with much mem and speed. Or is it recomendable to use a separate fileserver? If VPN comes into play, we need to access the 2nd fileserver, at this moment the webserver can not 'see' the fileserver. This is for protection. Does VPN have severe protection?     - OWA Condition, connection to SBS2000 Hi all, Just so somebody else might find that info faster: Users wanted to connect to their SBS exchange mailbox via OWA from the LAN and from a different LAN (WAN connection via VPN). They constantly received the "401 Unauthorized" error after 3 login attempts. The usual suspects such as authorization issues, proxy et al (as described on the MS KB articles and others) did not solve the issue. Finally, after checking the logfiles the problem was the SMTP address of the users. During SBS install it is recommended to use something like mydomain.local for the domain name of the machine if it's not acting as a server visible to the internet. However, if another machine (such as a linux machine) is doing the mail relay and proxy services, users sometimes are set up with their smtp address being their name and the FQDN. Now to be able to access OWA for these users an additional SMTP address has to be added to their exchange profile giving their login name plus the local domain (e.g. userlogon@mydomain.local). This does not need to be the default smtp address. Just _one_ of the smtp addresses has to match the local domain and bingo.     - Outlook 2003 PST to Outlook2002 Have a clinet who needs to move back from Outlook2003 to Outlook2002 But we're having problems importing the 2003 PST files into 2002 I get an error that the personal folders aren't compatible with this version.     - Sharepoint services / Intranet Hi, When you install SBS 2003 it installs the Intranet in English. How do I change that (I want Finnish). I tried by downloading the Finnish version of Sharepoint services and then uninstalled the English one before installing the Finnish one. It work fine except that the end result is not the same, the SBS 2003 Intranet is based on Sharepoint services, but it has things like the Incoming Faxes that are somehow custom built on top of it. Another question is, where does the Sharepoint services save it's data (I know that discussions and the like are saved in the database back end), in particular the files and custom pages.     - Exchange service packs How do I find out if I have the latest Exchange service pack? How do I find out if I have the latest service packs for all of SBS for that matter? I think (and that could be the problem lol) that I had downloaded and installed them all, but I wanted to re-verify.     - Novarg virus and SBS2000 w/Trend Micro I have SBS2000 with TrendMicro on it, and I'm not sure if I fully understand how it works with SBS yet. Maybe I don't have it installed correctly too. I really don't know since I just got Trend Micro this month for our SBS2000 server and workstations. We had numerous e-mails come in yesterday with the Novarg virus, a user in our office (duh!) opened the attachment. So, now our server shows it's infected as well as the workstation from the status section of Trend Micro located on SBS My concern is that when Trend Micros workstation client scans the workstation, it states it doesn't find any viruses once it cleaned the infection from last night, but the server still says that the workstation is infected Am I missing something here?     - Multiple Modem Ports for Shared Fax Services - Answer Folks, I found my answer. Win2003 standard and SBS 2003 support up to 4 (four) modems. Win2003 Enterprise is unlimted. You can control which ones are inbound and outbound. Technical refrences are: a) Windows 2003 Administrators Companion by MS Press. b) In SBS 2003 Server Management | Fax Services | right click | then to HELP. (so simple once you find the path) The capacities of this fax server are very impressive, I suggest a good reading of this HELP file for any one deploying Shared Fax Services.(SFS) You don't need third party apps like GFI unless you have some serious enterprise needs. Simply routing fax to a mail-box and giveing access to mail-box to multiple parties solves distribution issue for any small firm. By haveing a physical fax on same phone line with SFS to be two ring answer and physical for 4 rings, one will have still have acess to phyisical fax and also backup for fax service when the server crashes. <grin> Brooktrout has a new board that I did not know of that is designed special for SBS2003 and is an FSP ( Fax Service Provider) (internal link built into help file - intertesting product placment ad !) Also help mentions adaptive modems ( they determine between voice and fax call and decide how to answer) could be valuable for DSL line user to maximuize the value of phone line. Regards, David R. Hello All (again) I don't seem to be doing too well on this VPN business Thanks to Andy and Chad for their help in spotting the router as the cause of my problem. The firmware has been upgraded and I can now log in and be authenticated. Unfortunately now that I am in I can't do too much. My SBS server is called 'eppserver' and the domain is 'epp' I have tried \\eppserver\ through my browser but its not accessible If I ping my server IP I get a timed out I can ping 'EPP.local' and get a reply I can ping my server nic IP of 10.0.0.2 and get a reply Not sure where to go from here.     - Where to put the web server Can someone help me with some questions I have about where to put a win2003 web server on a multihomed sbs2000 network? I wanted to put it in the DMZ to keep it isolated from the LAN but then I found out that there is an application on it that LAN users need to access. I can put the web server in the DMZ and just enable netbios over TCP/IP to allow the LAN clients access to it; but then isn't that like placing the web server on the internal network anyway? If I put the Web server on the LAN and do port forwarding to it from the SonicWall how secure will the network be with the web server on the LAN? Is there any good references that I should Look at? Hi All, I've noticed if I'm outside of my network (at home) and try and send an email through my exchange server, with an invalid account (SMTP Authentication is enabled), but address it to someone inside my network, it works and sends through. However if I send an email through my exchange server, to a different domain, with an invalid account for the (smtp auth), it's denied (which is good)! I use the SMTP authentication for remote users.     - Authenitcation from remote sites smtp Hi All Simple prob I bet, I have exchange 2000 installed on a 2000 server, with ISA etc (sbs server I think) Internal users send/receive emails fine. External (remote users) also send/receive emails fine. Via outlook using SMTP The problem is external users, they can send emails even if they dont enter a password, which means anyone can send through my server! if I create a new account on my pc at home called TEST@domain.com, and enter my exchange IP address, I can send through my server to my hotmail account! AHHH this isn't good!! (open relay I think its called) I know you can specify certain machines only to access my SMTP protocol, but, the remote users IP addresses change as they use dial up. I want to make it so a password has to be entered (or stored) on the users machine in order for them to send an email through my exchange server.     - Email assault? Our company's SBS2K exchange server is being bombarded at the rate of 1 email every 3 minutes. I receive all the undeliverable. The emails are addressed on a first name basis i.e.... bob @ gmenterprises.com. They have the company address correct, but we use first name and last name in our email. What kind of an assault is this. Each email has a file attached that is either *.pif or *.scr as an attachment (which Symantec nicely blocks). Obviously, I know it must be a virus or Trojan of some sort. Why is this assault continuing? Why so many emails? I and am getting the following group policy errors in the event log: "Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO cn={6AC1786C-016F-11D2-945F-00C04fB984F9},cn=policies,cn=system,DC=RisingSta rphoto,DC=local.     - Exchange wont flow When we came in this morning it appears we have lost the ability to send and receive internal or external email. All the Exchange services are working properly and mailbox and public store are mounted. We can all get into our mailboxes and read our existing messages but we can't send anything. It appears to send (disappears from the outbox) but just goes into a black hole. The same applied to internal or external mail inbound and outbound. Very strange. Exchange not working I have a "standard" SBS2000 network: SBS2000 IBM server with: - ISA (two nic) - hardware firewall - SMTP mail - SQL installed but not in use - All SPs installed - all client computers Win2000 - 1 XP laptop workstation - 1 AS400 mainframe All workstations were using Netscape mail client to send / receive mail via POP3 I started configuring Outlook 2000 on one computer and Outlook XP on another.     - Out of resources when printing Hi We have this problem with one of our win2k workstations. When we try to print from within a terminal services session on this workstation, the main sbs2k server comes up with an out of resources error and it can not see the printers anymore. When I log onto the XP client as a local administrator I can use the help and support but if I log on as a domain user as part of the domain the help and support just hangs and I get Application hung errors in the event viewer.     - Slightly off topic I have a Dell Latitude latop with Windows XP SP1 pro. I find that when I change static IP addresses (which is a lot from customer to customer) it takes XP about 30 seconds to bind the IP to the NIC, in which time the LAN settings dialog box appears to hang!     - Cannot view Company.com website via internal Lan! Kindly Help!!! Hi All, I have an SBS 2000 setup (2 nics, sonicwall firewall, aDSL connection, TZO dynamic service) which so far has been running fine. One problem though...for some reason, I cannot view our www.company.com website on the sbs server or any of the workstations from inside the LAN. When I type the www.company.com address, it brings me right to the SonicWall Router Setup Page located at (192.168.1.1). I can view all other websites no problem, just not my company's external website. NOTE: if I view the www.company.com website from any other computer outside the LAN (i.e. at home), it loads fine.     - I am looking for FAX Services Hi, I am looking for a FAX Server and first preference is a Microsoft Product.     - More backup problems! In the absence of our Sony tape device (currently at the doctors) I am attempting to use a maxtor usb external hard drive. Incremental backups (around 650Mb) are fine. As soon as I attempt a full backup (around 22GB) I get a disk full message after 4.7 GB despite the fact there is over 30Gb free space!     - Imap Access Hi there, Using SBS2k and need to use IMAP for MAC Clients within the local network. The MAC clients(os x) find the IMAP server but get an error Invalid account ID or Password. I then setup a PC client for IMAP using Outlook express and the same result. They both seem to find the IMAP server but come up with bad user names or passwords Any help please...............     - OWA certificate issue Thanks to the well written tutorial on smallbizserver.net, I'm on the verge of rolling out OWA. In my testing, I'm running into one issue that concerns me though. When I type in the site address (123.456.789.1/exchange) The certificate window pops up as expected. I click on the view certificate, then on certification path (so I can install both certificates as described in the tutorial) and the server IP is listed at the top with an exclamation mark on it and the error "The issuer of this certificate was not able to be found." Obviously since the it can't be found it can't be installed. I thought maybe I put the certificate in an unreachable location on our website, so I copied it to a location on another site I KNOW is accessible and I get the same thing even after re-mapping the AIA line to the new source. What could be going wrong with the certificates? I can get into OWA just fine by clicking "Yes" on the do you want to proceed window, but I get the warning everytime. Any pointers? Thanks everyone.     - DHCP stopped working. XP PRO SP1 clients. Hey everyone, Odd problem, looking for some guidance. SBS2K SP4. DHCP server stopped working. Cannot get an IP address when I do an ipconfig /renew. All clients are XP PRO SP1. What is odd though is I'll restart an XP PC and then I'll get an IP address at startup and it works. But once I release it, I cannot get reassigned. Some clients are wireless. For clients with both wireless and a wired connection, at restart, the wired connection get's an ip address, but the wired never get's an ip address. The wireless stays at the 169.xx..xx format. What should I look for? Nothing in the event viewer indicating a problem. I can manually assign addresses which work but assiging does not work. Rick in the Midwest How can I change the amount of memory that the Store can use in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and later? A. The Store is responsible for interfacing with the Exchange database files. Because these files are disk based, the Exchange server caches as much information as possible and the Store uses as much of the machine's memory as possible, up to a default maximum of approximately 858MB of RAM. The Store releases this memory when other processes need to use it. For example, on a system with 1GB of RAM, you shouldn't be surprised if the Store typically uses more than 700MB. Having hundreds of megabytes of free memory serves no purpose, so the Store simply puts available memory to good use. You can change the amount of memory that Exchange uses for its cache by carrying out the following steps (although you should fully test any such change because it might affect system performance): 1. Install the Windows 2000 or later support tools from the server OS installation CD-ROM. 2. Start the ADSI Edit utility, which is one of the support tools--go to Start, Run, and type adsiedit.msc 3. From the left-hand pane, expand the root and expand the Configuration item. 4. Expand Services (each item will be prefixed by CN=), Microsoft Exchange, the name of your Exchange organization, Administrative Groups, the name of the administrative group, Servers, the name of the server for which you want to modify the Store memory information. 5. Select the server. In the right-hand pane, you'll see a list of components that you can change. 6. Right-click CN=InformationStore, then select Properties from the context menu. 7. Select the Attribute Editor and ensure that the "Show optional attributes" option is selected. 8. Double-click "msExchESEParamCacheSizeMax." 9. Although the value appears blank, Exchange sets this value to default to 219726. The value refers to the number of 4KB sections, otherwise known as pages. The system uses 4KB increments because the Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) database that Exchange uses stores data in 4KB sections. Enter a new value equal to the number of 4KB sections required. For example, to limit the Store to use 50MB of RAM, you'd enter a value of 12500 (you would never set the value this low on a production server--I'm just using it here as an example). Because of virtual address space limitations, Microsoft recommends that you enter a maximum value no larger than 307200, which is approximately 1.2GB of memory. You should typically increase the default value of 219726 only if you have more than 2GB of memory. For maximum efficiency, ensure that the value you enter is a multiple of 8192 (i.e., 2 pages). Click OK. 10. Click OK to close the InformationStore Properties dialog box, then close the ADSI Edit console window. 11. Before the change can take effect, the value for the setting you entered in Step 9 needs to replicate across the forest. established by the HOMENETWORK domain. However, the
computer lost the correct security identifier (SID) when
the domain was reconfigured. Reestablish the trust
relationship.

Rejoin the computer to the domain...
Log on locally as a local administrator. Right click My
Computer...Properties...Network Identication (this is for a Win2K
workstation, other OS may vary) switch to a Workgroup (any name will do).
Restart the computer. Log on as a local administrator and join the computer
to the domain by using the credentials of a domain administrator.
