I am currently migrating XP pro client computers to SBS
2000. It is step 9 of the Microsoft knowledgebase
article.

If I do not Disjoin the Client computer from the SBS 4.5
domain, I will retain my profile. If I do disjoin the
client computer, will I retain the Local Profile?

You have to disjoin the domain otherwise you get security errors in your
event viewer.

You can copy the profile from the old local profile to the new one. Or
use file and transfer wizard to migrate from the old profile to the new
profile [dump out settings on the local hard drive, unjoin, rejoin, and
import the settings back in]
