I have followed the advice of a few online articles and allowed all the
wizards to configured this system. My first problem was that they did not
configure my plug and play router. I re-configured it with two network
cards. Now everything works but I can not receive email.
Yes, I have confirmed that our MX record is correct. I don't have POP3, so
I am not using that connector. The internet e-mail connector is using the
Default SMTP Virtual Server - which I assume opens port 25 - I can not seem
to find were to adjust those settings.

Any I ideas? our domain is MFGBC.ORG , our MX record is PETER

First of all... you crossposted to pretty much every group except the SBS2k3
one (microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs)... you might want to post it there
next time. :-)

Now, I just tried to connecto your server and Exchange is not responding on
port 25. Make sure you ran CEICW (Configure Email and Internet Connection
Wizard on the To Do List). Also, make sure your router is forwarding port 25
to the server.

Your setup should look like this:

Hi Niel,

Please post the ipconfig/all from the server. Standard or Premium? Have you
forwarded port 25 from your router to your external nic IP?

Thanks for the advice. I am not using a router. Also, I have ran the
"Configure Email and Internet Connection

where port 25 is set (out side of that wizard).

Hi Niel,

Can you telnet to your public IP on port 25 from outside your network?
Do you have Standard or Premium?

Maybe your ISP (Consolidated Communications?) is blocking port 25? I would
call them and ask.

Do you have multiple IPs? Try connecting a PC parallel to the external
interface of your SBS box and "telnet 209.107.224.138 25". If you get a
response then you know is an ISP issue.

I would run a netstat to see what is running on port 25. Just tried to
telnet to your server and that looked strange to me.

Hi Niel,

Rerun CEICW and make sure you enable Email for port 25. If you have a
router, make sure you forward port 25 to your external nic IP.

Can you check that the SMTP service is running? I assume you can't even
"telenet localhost 25" from the server? Does email work at all?

Re: Not Receiving internet e-mail on our new SBS2003 by Dr

Dr

Neil, I hope this answers your question.

Open Exchange Manager, expand servers, expand your server
(peter), expand protocols, expand SMTP, and there you
will find the Default SMTP Virtual Server.
Right-click and select properties.
Click on the down arrow and select the IP address of your
external NIC. Additionally, you can click on the advanced
button and change the IP and Port (it's there that you
can verify that it is set to port 25). You can also set
filters, relay restrictions, permissions etc.

Good luck!

Dr. Gadget
longtime SBS fan.
