 - Breakup SBS into separate server I am running SBS 2000 and have purchased the upgrade to 2003 but have not installed it. I checked into the transision pack upgrade to break up the server which is very expensive. I was thinking about just buying Win2003 server and starting over.  - Remote Backup Suggestions Hi all, I have a quick question about remote backup solutions. Management is waiting to implement a remote backup system and I am trying to determine the best course of action as I have never looked any remote services before. Is it better to use a backup provider (ie livevault) or do a remote consisting of maybe a VPN to VPN site connection to lets a local site (my house for example) purchase a backup software that is capable of providing this feature and have a storage at the house. What kinda prices do those services usally run. With the 2nd solution being more expensive at first but no monthly charges occur after the setup is complete. Just looking for ideas.  - SCSI or SATA We want to make some drastic maintenance at our server system. So far of course only SCSI drives were recomended. I am now not too sure if we shall consider SATA drives.  - External HD drives We hare using msmall Dell 400SC several, which has not too much space in it. The system operates on SBS2003 system. Due to small place we intend to place new disk in a new computer case in whioch is only power supply and some fans (and of coures a number of Hard discs.  - Disk Quota volume - which files? Hi (This may not be the right forum, so apologies, but it is certainly one of the most 'answered' forums.) I have a user who has half a Gigabyte of disk space showing on her disk Quota's. I can only find a couple of MB in her home folder. She knows not what these files may be, because as far as she is concerned she only makes light use of the PC. How can I tell which files/folders make up this half GB? Thanks in advance.  - SBS exchange 2k outlook sent message headers? Help! I have a matter where I need to produce on paper a copy of an email message sent from a user (client outlook 2002) via SBS exchange 2k to an outside party and printout must include the internet headers. I have the message in a sent items folder in outlook but message options shows an empty internet headers box for all sent items? Any ideas how I can get the headers? I'm obviously missing something here. The message is older than my message tracking expiry in Exchange manager message tracking center, and if if it where would only show the routing and not the header? Any suggestions appreciated..  - error 800 on vpn connect Hello everyone, I am trying to connect from win2kpro to small business server 2000 thru a vpn connection. I installed a second nic on my server and did the ICW and RRAS wizards and enabled ports 1723 and 47. I even did port fordwarding to thru the router(SMC 2804wbr) to forward direct to my server using first the external nic, then the internal nic, then both. and still nothing, I keep getting "Error 800: Unable to establish connection ". I looked in Support.microsoft.com, but was no help. The router is a wireless g router/ap combo and is definetely after 2000 and firmware issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thank You.  - adsl sharing via router We have a very small SBS2000 installation and have a ADSL connection to the internet We have a Netgear DG834GT connected to the ISP and we want to share this connection with our SBS network. I have two questions :- 1. Can we just connect this to our switch? and if so how do we allow users to share this through our SBS server? 2.  - One time transfer of SBS 2K CALS Hi I am trying to install a 20 CAL add on to our SBS to take it up to 45 CALS. The disk was used on our sister companies SBS which has now been removed. After phoning support and finding out that as the disk had already been used to increase an SBS to 25 the disk needs to be reset. I was given the 0870 6061517 number, unfortunately they didnt understand what I was trying to acheive and gave me the support number.  - Exchange Issue Hi everyone, I have a strange problem that I am not sure what could be causing this. There are certain types of emails that for some reason will not show up in the inbox of a user it is being sent to. I was able to get an example of this email from a user who claimed that no matter what he did he could not receive it from a client. I had him forward it to a external email address so that I can test it. I can send any message from the external email and it goes through fine. I smtp logs show it successful and it appears in the inbox. I then try to send the one I was forwarded.  - W2003 access shares rights To our existing SBS2K network I've added a W2003 server. There seems to be a problem with trying to write to shares on this server. I gave users full rights, no solution. I'm an administrator and owner of the share, and I have the same problem over the network. Same logged on locally with the administrator account. If I use explorer to browse to the UNC path share and write, rights violation. If I use the local disk path d:\share, no problem. There is only a problem with the W2003 server. Luckily it is a DB Server and not a FS server. .I recall reading something of this sorts which happened after a windows update. I don't recall the KB or the problem I researched then.  - PPTP/VPN security I'm allowing only fixed IP adresses to VPN in and set up a TS server session. http://www.securityspace.com in their online security scan can still detect that I'm running PPTP.  - User/exchange/office/Installer Problem I give up. I had a user who needed a zip utility. I downloaded ZipGenius from MajorGeeks. It worked, but he had some problem while printing and then couldn't access his email or run Office programs. I uninstalled ZipGenius, but here is the current situation. He has a Win98 workstation with Outlook 2000 attached to an SBS2K server running Exchange 2K. He has Office 97 professional with Office Small Business 2000 installed over it. (We kept 97 for Access.) He cannot open his mailbox. When he tries to start Outlook, he gets a message that the information store cannot be opened. He also cannot get to his mail from other workstations running either Win98 or XP and Outlook 2000. He can, however, get to his mail from a workstation running Outlook 2003. He also cannot start Word or Excel. He gets an error message saying "The Windows Installer failed to install the program associated with this file." He cannot uninstall Office and can't reinstall Office. I thought it might be a Windows Installer problem, so I tried reinstalling Windows Installer and got a message saying, "The specified service already exists." However, when I logged in as that user on an identical workstation, I got the same problem. Even after I disconnected that workstation from the network, I could not open Word or Excel, which are installed on the local hard drive. I could open them if I logged on as someone else. I can't tell if it's a user issue or a mailbox issue or both. Can't understand why it would affect a locally installed copy of Office on a disconnected workstation, except that I told the machine to copy down user settings when I logged on to that workstation the first time. Can anyone suggest a plan of action? I thought I'd delete and recreate the user, but I'm not sure what the ramifications of that are. Mark Tag: RRAS Problem.. Tag: 175006

 - Add domain user to remote PC wiht the DC being available Is it possible to add a new domain user account on a remote XP Pro computer. The DC is an SBS 2000 server. The PC is at a remote office that is NOT bridged or VPN'd to the main office. So, the PC is not able to authenticate with DC. Existing domain users can connect. My problem is I want to create a new domain user. How do I do that when the PC can't find the DC at login? The DC server has a Cisco VPN host. The PC has a Cisco VPN Client on it. However, when I setup the VPN Client option to run VPN first at login, it won't do this. So, there lies my problem. How can I add the domain user without having a network connection/bridge to the DC?  - Two external IP adresses on the NIC To make a TS available over the internet behind the SBS2K server, I used the KB article to set up the ISA server to listen for two IP adresses on the NIC.  - Access to shares lost after install of XP SP2 Last December a client of mine got a new laptop and we connected it to the SBS 2000 network. I did not put on the firewall client as using the proxie settings provided everything we needed. I did this with two laptops that they got at that time. Last month, one of them was not able to print and took forever to log in. I discovered it was basicly hanging trying to authenticate and would eventual time out. If the laptop was not connected to the network it logged in just fine with the cached credintials. When I did a run line \\serverName I would normally get a list of shares but it would come up after a long time with a blank window. I did everything I could think of then resorted to building it from scratch. Once I did that it worked fine so I proceeded to load patches and service pack2 and more patches. I then found that I lost my authentication again to the server. So again I rebuilt it and would test authentication after each of the updates. After the Service Pack 2 update was applied, that was when I lost authentication. Is there a patch that needs to be appliced to the SBS 2000 server so that an XP SP2 client can authenticate?  - Pop3 Connector Problem I've been having ongoing issues with my e-mail system. I recently set up multiple POP accounts at my ISP , and account for each of the 8 users on my SBS2000 network. I configured the POP3 connector to pull the e-mail down and all seemed to go fine. Unfortunately, no e-mail ever gets to the mailboxes of the users. I've worked through the troubleshooting steps from Microsoft and it seems that the POP3 connector is downloading the messages properly and tries to deliver them to Exchange but encounters an error. It then proceeds to purge the undelivered mail. The message that I'm getting form the POP3 Connector in the event viewer is: "The SMTP session transcript was: <G>:220 vickery01.VICKERY.local Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.6713 ready at Sat, 10 Sep 2005 22:30:09 -0400 <C>: EHLP vickery01.VICKERY.local <S>: 500 Failed to exchange X-LSA info, closing transmission channel <C>: HELO vickery01.VICKERY.local" The POP3 Connector then generates a NDR status code 400 What am I missing?? I've searched everywhere I could think of and can't figure this out.  - Web Site BEHIND SBS/ISA server Hi Everyone: An old issue with a site has resurfaced. And I am stumped. When this site was setup, the owners chose to setup a web server in house. This is NOT the default web site in SBS, but a different installation on a different computer. Both the SBS server and the NT4.0 server/website have two nics. Intermally, the SBS server is 192.168.16.2, and the NT40/webserver is 192..168.16.3 The router forwards the mail to the SBS server 192.168.1.2, and port 80 to the NT40.webserver 192.168.1.3 Recently the DSL provider has changed the clients static IP address, so I changed the static ip on the wan side of the router. Now, when users try to access the website www.clientname.com from the outside, they are challanged for a user name, password and domain. I remember a long, difficult, and many hours of phone with MS PSS to resolve this, but don't have good notes. As I remember, it has to do with filters in ISA, although why is a bit of a mystery.  - delay in email then crash Using SBS 2000/POP Beamer/Outlook 2003/windows 2000/Veritas server backup all updates and upgrades applied Added my 9th user about a month ago. All her external emails were coming in to her outlook 4-6 hours late. Then it started happening to other users. A week later backup of the exchange mailboxes began to fail, 2 days later the back ups of the public folders failed. Then no could send or receive internal email and couldn't access the public folders. It took 6 hours to defrag the exchange files. Then everything was fine except the 9th user was still getting their external emails 4 to 6 hours late. Added a 10th user and his external emails are beginning to come in 4 to 6 hours late.  - Maximum # of TS Sessions and Printer Redirection Hi, We have a client who has been using SBS 2000 with 4 Clients on the LAN and 2 remote sites who login remotely using Remote Desktop Connections and redirect their printers to the local printer at the remote sites. Printer redirection for RD sessions had been working just fine. They have recently added a third machine at a third site which has a Dell 922 All-in-one as the local printer connected via USB and they are having printing issues which affect all remote sites. Not only does the Dell printer not work but it also appears to corrupt/displace the port assignments for the printers on existing two original sites. The host server has USB ports and we have installed the drivers for the Dell AIO922 onto the SBS2K. When we look at the port assignments for the original remote printers the TS001 and TS002 ports which originally had Epson and HP printers assigned now have the Dell printer assigned. Reading other posts in the forum we suspect that either they are exceeding the number of TS/RDP clients allowed or the number of printer redirections supported by SBS 2k. Please can somebody confirm or shed some light and perhaps suggest a fix. Please ask for any additional info that you require and we will provide by return. The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error

Tried http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=299013 all ok / done apart from the
last element... Uninstall TCP/IP ??????
