I was wondering if anyone could help?
At a clients site, they are having a strange problem with isa.
Set up is win xp clients, w2ksbs server running isa, all clients as firewall
client.
2-3 of the users have a problem whereby when they first open internet
explorer, they get a page saying page not found, if they hit refresh all is
fine. This can happen at any time during the day, even if other people can
browse the net with no problems, and it seems to be just these 2-3 users. if
they close ie and re open it the same things happen.
The settings for all users are identical, using isa as a proxy etc.
anyone got any ideas?

tia

What is their start page. A client of mine had the same problem when the
start page was left as the default from the manufacturer. Can't remember who
the manufacturer was though I'm afraid. Do all workstations have firewall
client installed?

hi
thanks for the reply
all clients have firewall client running, start pages are different,
although other users in the office have the same ones, and have no problem.
there doesn't seem to be any connection between them.

I had the same problem and managed to fix it.

On the page not found page, click detect network settings
and this usually brings up the home page. Then I deleted
the history and internet files and cookies and the
problem has gone away, like yourself, it was sporadic and
only effected a few users. I never did find out why it
happens!

Hope this helps

Continuing on the temp files theme. Go to internet properties page and
click on the right tab. Scroll down to the bottom to the security
section. There is a box for delete temporary internet files when
exiting IE. Place a checkmark there. Go back to the general tab and
delete temp files including offline files. Some set the IE cache to
100 megs. On XP and 2000 boxes you need to do this for each user
account. This keep the hard drive cleaner, defrag and av scans go
faster, and dormant virus are deleted when you exit IE. Things just
work better with these settings.

More general housekeeping. I do a search for *.tmp looking inside
hidden folders and delete them. I also search for *.dmp. After that is
done a defrag is run. Office can make thousands of temp files that are
not deleted. Once again defrag and av scans go faster with a cleaner
hard drive.

Think i have finally fixed it, went to the inet properties, and allowed
http1.1 through proxy, cleared all the temp files etc, and it now seems to
work.
Just clearing the files by themselves didn't.
Wierd.
