Hello,

SBS2K. XP clients. I am trying to set up Remote Desktop Connection to be
able to remote control these PCs (I have TightVNC, but sometimes I need to
do it this way). Anyway, I have configured a Group Policy at the server to
allow remote control. I set the Remote Control Settings policy (under
Administrative Templates > Windows Components/Terminal Services) to Full
Control Without User's Permission. That should have worked. It did not. I
did verify, using the Group Policy Management snapin that the PCs are
receiving the policy. When I tried to log into the PC using Remote Desktop
Connection, I received the following error:

Local Policy Does Not Permit You to Log On Interactively

That said, I edited the GPO to allow Administrators local logon rights
(which I believe is the default config anyway). When I tried again, after
refreshing Group Policy, I still received the same message. Now I have no
idea what to do. Any ideas on where I can start? Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Have you checked on the XP clients themselves to see if remote connection is
enabled?

Marina,

Thanks for the help. This may be a dumb question, but how would I tell? I
looked in the Local Security Settings on a client and did not see an entry
for it. Should it be in there? Thanks,

Chris

From a post in an XP group:

Try:
Start->Run, type Tscc.msc
goto computer configuration->administrative template->windows
components->Terminal Services
the setting is: Allow users to connect remotely using Terminal Services.

Am I just losing it tonight. I tried to run that msc from two XP clients and
its not there. I ran a search, but got no results. The only place I could
find the msc was on the server and that isn't what I am trying to find. Am I
doing something wrong? Thanks,

Re: Problem with Remote Desktop Connection by Chris

Chris

I knew there was a quick way to set that. Its been a while since I last
messed with it. Under the Remote Desktop area, the check box that sets allow
is checked and under the users area, it says DOMAIN\Administrator as access.
Also, below the box, it says DOMAIN\CGuimbellot (my account) already has
access. I didn't see that setting in the GPO, so I don't know how you would
set it on a domain level.

Either way, with those settings, I should be able to connect, right? Thanks
again.

Got to admit I copied/pasted too quickly there - sorry. I've been 'watching'

reply from an MS person - I didn't read it fully - sorry!

Still watching that thread. :-(
