Hello!
I have a little problem with an Exchange 2000 Server.
The Server is connected via a 748/128 DSL-Line to the=20
internet. Some users usually send mail to up to 5000=20
recipients. Now when they do that, the Internet can not be=20
used anymore, because Exchange takes the whole Upstream=20
bandwidth for sending the mails..
Can I somehow limit the bandwidth for exchanges=B4 SMTP?

Thanks a lot,

Michael Eberhardt

Michael,

You can limit the number of outbound SMTP connections Exchange will make
simultaneously.
To do this:
1. Open Exchange System Manager.
2. Expand Servers>Servername>Protocols>SMTP
3. Right-click on your SMTP virtual server and choose properties.
4. On the Delivery tab click the Outbound Connections button.
5. Here you can control the number of outbound connections that Exchange
makes. Lower this value to ~ 3.
You can experiment with different values to match your bandwidth
requirements.
6. Once you have save your changes be sure to restart the SMTP service.

Hi Michael,

Apart from these suggestion (which will work well). Have you considered
using a smarthost? If you set this up 1 copy of the e-mail will get sent to
smarthost and will be forwarded from there.
