I have just installed my first SBS 2000, and everything is
fine.

We often have temporary staff working on site who need
access to the internet a part of their work, but a couple
of them are downloading software and adding mesaging
services etc.

Is there a way SBS can restrict these downloads through
the security or user settings - we have roaming profiles
and so other options require far more work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Chris.

You could remove them from the Local Admins Group, but this may or may
not effect application that they use, and may not stop them installing
everything ( e.g. Java Apps ) - You'll need to test. There are quite a
few 3rd party apps that will allow you to restrict users from downloading
from the web that you may wish to look at as well.

I have attempted to stop them by using ISA to block downloads of
executables, using a block on Site & Content rules and a Content Group
created for executables. Took a bit of trial and error to get right, but
seems to be working now.
