Hi all,

Had a very bad experience with the latest Symantec Corporate Multi-tier
version 8.1. You need to register it on Symantec site and they are supposed
to send you a license file by e-mail which permits you to run liveupdate,
I'm still waiting for the license file after 8 hours - the symantec support
is pathetic (here in Europe).

The problem is that even if you manually update to the latest virus pattern
files, Symantec keeps on reverting to original pattern file i.e. 23/03/2003
so the server and clients are not fully protected. If tomorrow I don't get
the license file, I'll revert back to old version and probably order Trend.

If anybody is thinking of buying one please be aware.

I recently purchased this and also was totally pissed with the new license
routine. I understand why Symantec is doing it but they do not have it
perfected. When I tried to get my license file, the website wasn't working.
I called (phone number somewhat hard to find), got hold of someone and they
registered me and said the file will be sent in 20 minutes. Waited 2 hours,
called back and had to leave a message. Recording stated they someone will
get hold of you in 1 business day. NO WAY, I want protection now cause I was
getting ready to connect the server to the Internet. I finally got hold of
someone and they will send you a temporary file, but the file was blank and
didn't work. They said they have gotten reports that some mail servers are
changing the file and making it unusable. I had them send it to a Exchange
2000 and 5.5 server and both didn't work. It finally worked when they sent
it to my hotmail account. They were surprised because they said hotmail
gives them the most trouble. I finally got updated and told them that if
they don't get this license routine done quickly and right, then I was going
to suggest different antivirus products to my clients. They said they would
forward my comments...yeah right. The other thing that sucks, is if you want
the user to do LiveUpdate (I do on laptop users), then they also need the
license file. You have to manually copy it to the folder on their computer.
What a pain when you are rolling it out.
I still prefer SAV but they are definitely headed into trouble waters.....
