I have a SBS2000 network with XP Pro clients. Been
running fine with not problems for many months. Now,
when a user changes their domain password, the machine
seems to continue to login to the domain OK but the user
can't access any network services (Outlook, Web via ISA
server) without getting prompted by these services for
username and password. For example, when opening
Outlook, she gets a login prompt with her SBS2000
username and domain filled in, she fills in the new
password she just changed to, and Outlook opens. Same
thing with ISA server. Hit IE, get prompted for a login,
put in new password, goes through OK. Seems like the
client may still be trying to submit the old password as
part of the initial authentication. I need help!

Are the users changing their password when they get an expiration
notice? If so, what happens when they hit cntrl-alt-del and change
their password that way... do you get the same problem? Also, what
happens if you go into AD/Users and reset their password ...same
problems?

You know when you see that question about saving passwords in IE. No
is the correct answer. Dig around in IE for passwords and delete them.
Tools/Inernet Options/Content/Autocomplete. I don't think they are
stored anywhere else.

I have not see this.

What we check when changing passwords:
-------------------------------------------
Go to the SBS Server Administrator Console
Select Users
Verify in SBS in the User Properties, under Account tab, that the "User
cannot change password" box is not checked.

Logging In:
-----------
At the workstation, is the user logging into the domain or logging into
their local pc?

I have this same trouble with one client on our SBS2K LAN. Every time his
password expires and he changes it to something else, he must manually
authenticate himself as you describe. When this happens, I force him to
change password on next logon and the problems seems to go away until the
next expiration. It would be nice to resolve this problem. I think it may
be a corrupt profile (we do not use roaming profiles), but it's kind of a
pain to set a new one up, so I haven't messed with it.
