Sorry for being off topic but I was wondering if anyone has used a Phone
Messages program that works well with Outlook and Exchange. I have a client
who would like to have their secretary take all phone messages using the
computer and have the messages show up in each person's inbox.

Thanks,
John

John,

It may be rather simple for your needs, but slipstick.com has a small
program that sends phone message via Outlook/Mapi client.

Try http://www.slipstick.com/addins/gallery/. Scroll down for the "Phone
Message" description and zip file.

If not, try google...there seems to be several other freebies out there.

HTH,

Sean

Thanks Sean,

I tried the Slipstick solution but ran into a couple of problems.
1. whenever I tried to send the message Outlook security complained that
another program was trying to send mail, bla, bla.
2. I selected my Exchange user from the contact list and when I tried to
send the message it stated that there were more than one user with the name.
Outlook was looking at a contact for my hotmail also. Not very user friendly
if you ask me.

Also, the client is looking for a solution that they can better track phone
messages. They would like to be able to identify the messages as phone
messages and later review/search and get the status (did someone return the
call?)
This may be a little more sophisticated than Outlook or Exchange is capable
of.
Can anyone recommend a good solution?

Thanks,
John

Here's a really simple solution we use - no software, custom forms, etc.
When sending a phone message, we use the regular e-mail form, but we preface
the subject with a "+" sign. So I'd get a message with the subject "+Smith,
John 555-1234," with short comments on the subject line (urgent, will call
back). More detailed comments would be written in the message body. That
way, you can sort or group your messages, use rules to move or color them,
etc.

We use an Outlook rule to copy outgoing messages where the subject line
contains a + to a public folder. That way, when people call in for
messages, any one can access them.

Should be possible using Custom Forms in Outlook surely? If you could design
even a basic email form with fields for Subject, Number etc then basically
the user would be simply sending an email but laid out in an
easy-to-decipher form for the recipient?

There are numerous phone systems with CTI integration that can do the likes
of forwarding voicemail messages to email via MAPI but I don't know of
anything particularly fully-featured that is standalone [however there will
almost certainly be 'something' out there...]
