I'm having problems reinstalling Outlook 2002 on SBS2000
client machines.

Background:
I originally installed SBS2000 and setup the (WinXP Pro)
clients and installed Outlook 2002 at that time. Had
problems with the server and had to completely rebuild
it. Temporarily rolled back the clients (but did not
uninstall Outlook) in the meantime.

Later when the server was rebuilt, I uninstalled Outlook
from two clients and then ran the setup disk, but Outlook
would not install even though it is listed in Add/Remove
programs. Performing a Repair or Reinstall did not fix
the problems. On the remaining clients I did not
uninstall Outlook before rerunning the client setup disk
and had no problems other than having to manually create
the Outlook profiles.

Have tried running the installation by manually
connecting to the share on the SBServer and running setup
and also from the CD. In both cases when I get to the
page listing the programs to be installed Outlook has a
red "X" next to it and is listed as "Unavailable".

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get Outlook
installed on these computers?

Hi Andy,

So you did have an administrative install on the SBS before you had to
rebuild it? Are those clients still looking for the 'old' share?
You could get the Windows installcleaner (msicuu.exe) which is able to clean
the clients completely from any MS-application. After that you should be
able to install.
If you can't find it, let me know. It's only 283 kb and I can mail it to you
if you wish.

According to KBase article 242323 (among others) the
Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is not supported on
systems with Windows Installer 2.0 or higer installed.
This includes all Windows XP computers.

Since the computers in question are Windows XP Pro
computers, I don't think this will work.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Andy,

Well, then I think you should get in the registry and delete the
software\office-key. You might want to backup the registry first.

Marina,

Just for clarification:
1 - I assume you mean the HKLM\software\office key.
2 - I assume that this would force me to reinstall Office
as well as Outlook, correct?

Please correct me if my assumptions are incorrect.

Hi Andy,

Yup, that is what I mean. And yes, you would have to reinstall Office as
well.
Make sure you delete the Microsoft Office map from the Program Files as
well.
