1.Deploying a new version of the Microsoft Exchange / Outlook system can be
a
very complex and expensive tasks. System administrators not only have to
upgrade the server software, but they also have to manually install new
versions of the MS Outlook client software to all client machines. Network
distribution software or remote management software is available from 3rd
parties, but can be costly and requires installation of software on all
client
machines to enable remote management.
2.PC and Windows and especially Microsoft Exchange and Outlook are well
known for security problems and are often target for external attacks by
viruses, Trojan horses and hackers. There are numerous viruses exploiting
security holes in the Microsoft Outlook client by using JavaScript embedded
in
HTML email, Visual Basic or Windows Media Player (WMP) holes. For
example, emails containing Windows Media Player files can use the ability of
WMP to automatically execute JavaScript code from an HTML e-mail
message in Outlook 2002. Using this security hole, a virus can execute
simply
by opening the Email in Microsoft Outlook gaining access to the Outlook
Address book or even to the user?s hard disk. See
http://www.internetnews.com/dev-news/article/0,,10_996481,00.html for a
discussion of this example.
In contrast, HiperExchange stores all data centrally on the exchange server
which is immune to attacks and viruses targeted at Microsoft Windows,
HiperExchange OWA and Java clients are immune to
widespread JavaScript and Visual Basic viruses targeted at security holes in
the Microsoft Outlook client application.
