I've just arrived home from Jeff Middleton's IT Pro 2007 Conference in New
Orleans and I just wanted to let everyone know that it was a huge
success...from the key note...to the various panel discussions, the deep
dive sessions, Microsoft's presentation on Cougar, the vendors and of course
New Orleans, Bourbon St. and last nights cruise on the Mississippi. There
was overwhelming indications from those present that they would like to see
this happen again next year and Jeff seemed to indicate he'd put efforts in
that direction. And I know we all came home with lots to think about.

It was nice to put a face to some of you from the NG's here and unfortunate
that many more of you did not make it.

Remember that Wayne Small, SBS - MVP and founder of SBSFAQ.com is hosting a
seminar in Sydney Austrailia over Thanksgiving...he has a great line up and
activities planned...

And start planning now to join us for Jeff's IT PRO 2008 Conference (or
whatever it winds up being called). Meantime, Jeff and others are
continuing the conference aboard a cruise ship bound for Mexico. Bon
Voyage.

I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone might have about this
conference.

Just to add my 2 cents to what Cris has already said, and from the
perspective of an "ordinary" attendee this was a great conference. The
planning, the program, the message, the opportunity to meet the MVP's and
the MS SBS team was all good. Where else are you going to get most of the
SBS MVPs, the MS SBS development team, and 200 peers to give you their best
efforts.

Now add to that the wonderful food, the great jazz music, a riverboat cruise
and a view of the progress that NOLA has made in 20 months, and you should
now start making plans to attend the next one.

Add to that Vlad Mazek in a BIG purple hat and Mardi Gras beads and you have
both an informative and an entertaining meeting.

Because the plans for the next one are not yet set, I recommend that anyone
who thinks they might like to participate watch the SBS public news groups
or www.sbsmigration.com, or whatever venue is later announced, to find out
who, what, where and when the next community based conference will be.

Remember, this is a peer group. There was no "message from on high".
Anyone who had something to contribute was able indeed encouraged to do so.

I came away with a great many ideas about how to help customers or employers
to avoid becoming one of the road kill statistics of a catastrophic systems
failure, even one as out of your control as the one recounted by an attendee
involving a mass murder in an office building that prevented everyone in the
building, spread across multiple companies, from going to work for a week.
The infrastructure was OK, but no one could get to it. And there were many
others.

One thing that kept coming up was how to get more people involved. What
kept people from coming to this conference? Holiday weekend? More notice?
Would you be more likely to attend if the meeting was not over a holiday?
If you would have come if "whatever" had been different, please post back
here, or on www.sbsmigration.com or whatever venue they make available, what
would entice you to attend.

I would like to go on an summarize the entire meeting for everyone to read,
but I am still in NOLA, and having too much fun to spend the next two days
to tell you what you missed.

What happens in NOLA stays in NOLA, and who people choose to be on a long

I have just arrived home from the IT Pro Conference and the IT Pro Cruise.
The Cruise was an added bonus as it gave us a chance to really get to know a
subset of people. Nothing like wind, sand, rain, sun, continuous food and
good conversation with about 50 people to really find some good win/win
partnerships.

A major thanks to Jeff for going way overboard in his above and beyond
conference. It was an experience I will not soon forget.

Coming back to 3000-odd new messages in the SBS newsgroups is a bit of a
shocker though.
