    - Partition filling up quickly Part 2 ***Part 1 posted yesterday***** Thanks Chad for your help, I found 3 queues on there. It's not creating those logs at that rate. However this morning I found a queue that was labeled "SmallBusiness SMTP connector - e-wholesaler.net(SMTP Connector - Remote Delivery)". Is this considered a spammer using my server as an open relay still? I followed all the steps as I was supposed to. SHould I start using a different port for my SMTP server or it has to be port 25 always?. If I do that I might have to do some changes on my Cisco PIX firewall.     - Slow SBS server Hi I'm running SBS2000 on a dual xeon 2ghz server with 1gb ram and 2 x 36gb scsi hard drives, we have 9 client computers and 2 of these are wireless. The software being used is Sage Line 50, Exchange and Veritas + 1 of the hard drives is used for all files and an Access database. I have two problems which may be related 1. The client computers take anything from 45secs to 3mins to log in, but the wireless computers are almost instant. 2. The performance count for free memory when rebooted starts at approx 50% then over the space of approx 48hours reduces gradually to 1% free at which time the whole network slows down. Then the firewall will be disabled inside the network and while the active X and pop up blocking will be in place, the internal firewall blocking will not. ---------------------------------- What's the most impact I will see if I install this? Quite frankly on my desktop at the office where I have been running the RC2 candidate, none of my applications have been affected in any way, shape or form. The install does take a bit of time [its a 200+kb file and ensure that you archive the bits when installing. Once it installs the first screen up will look a bit text-installer like and then it will ask you if you want to enable auto update. This is kewl as it monitors your patch level, your firewall status and your antivirus level. It will know that Trend SMB is loaded and alert you if it might be out of date. I see the most impact for me on business web sites like www.bankofamerica.com where we had to manually add the web site and the site it "launches off to" when making tax payments electronically so we could get page properly. No, the firewall and everything on the XP sp2 client will work independently of the server and you won't need to adjust any group policy to make anything work. ------------------------------- The biggest impact in my office? On the four machines that are running the sp2, I've had to let folks know how to add a web site to the trusted site zone to enable scripting when needed and to add sites to the pop up tool bar.     - Replacing an old workstation with a new one Hi all, I want to replace an old Windows 98 workstation with a newer, Windows XP Pro workstation. I would like to use the same machine name for the new one that was used on the old. (Of course, this is part of a SBS2000 network) What is the correct procedure for doing this? Thanks for the help.     - Event id 202 on SBS "windows server is out of licenses" I have a customer with a SBS 2000 server, a Windows 2000 member server, and an NT 4 Terminal SErver. The SBS server gets event id 202 "Windows server is out of licenses" often, and I understand that this can come from the member server, but the 2000 server has license logging disabled.     - Enabling user email services I have a user who current does not have email services. How to I set this up for them? If it is not possible: Wich method we will use? SBS 2000 supports move mailboxes? supports integrate another EXCH in the Organization? How to upgrade Small Business Server Domain Environment to regular Windows 2003 Domain http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555073&Product=sbs It will work? 2. Upgrade Small Business Server 2000 in place. This scenario is complicated and need to be tested before you implement it. Note: I assume that ISA/SQL server hasn't been installed in the domain. a. Add new Windows 2000 Server to the domain. b. Promote the Server from step "a" to new Windows 2000 Domain Controller (With DNS) in the same domain. c. Install Exchange 2000 on the new Windows 2000 Domain ontroller - you may need to add the Exchange 2000 to the same Exchange organization. d. Move users mailboxes from old Exchange 2000 to the new Exchange server. e. Move Public Folders from old Exchange 2000 to the new Exchange server. f. Move GC+ FSMO functions from the original domain controller to the new domain controller . g. Remove the original Exchange server from the original Exchange organization. h. Demote the original domain controller to be a member server. i. Remove the member server (step "h") from the domain. Note: If you have important files (like users home folders etc.) you may need to move them to another server.     - setting up machine to receive smtp (no pop3:) hi... got an sbs 2k server set up to receive smtp mail. have spoken to the company that host the domain. asked them to do an MX record that points to the server. they said that, using nslookup, it resolves to xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.in-addr.btopenworld.com and this is the value that would go in MX record. previously i've just given co's the IP and left it at that and it has worked. in this instance i tried to telnet in via this addy and wasn't able to. is this correct behaviour or is there some more info i need to provide.. or am i way off track here btw can telnet into server no problem, from remote location via IP address.     - Disappearing POP3 Connector Forwards For some reason, every once in a while, we lose POP3 Connector accounts for no discernible reasons. The email is safe, fortunately, unlike the other bug; as soon as I re-add the account, the email is retrieved. Any ideas what's causing this or what I can do to fix it?     - Partition filling up quickly The partition on the SBS server where the exchange resides is 10GB. The mailboxes are taking so far 820 MB, Not applications in the server except for the native ones and the antivirus(Panda AV). I currently have only 1.3 GB left. PLease Gurus out there give me some pointers and clues to where I should start looking for here to find out why this partition is filling up this way.     - nothing being generated in ISA reports.. We have a Windows 2000 Small Business Server. We currently have a Watchguard Firebox 700 in our environment and because of this have not used the ISA server portion of SBS. However, I have recently been asked to begin providing internet traffic documentation, visited sites etc.... Watchguard's reporting is not nearly as good as ISA's and so I have tried to turn "on" ISA so all web requests are logged and reporting can be done using ISA. I have configured what I thought I needed to but when I generate the report, no data is present. I am logged on the SBS as myself (I am the admin) and surfed the net but still - no report data. There isn't even a line in the "sessions" area when I am browsing as I thought there would be! I have configured the following... 1) The Web Proxy and Firewall "services" are running 2) Under Access Policy -> Site and Content Rules, I have an "Allow rule" for certain users (one of which I am) for all access (the watchguard will block based on the WebBlocker DB) 3) Logging has been enabled - and there is data in the WEB Proxy log files even!!! 'WEBEXT......txt" 4) Created a new report which I generated immediately, specified the correct dates (double checked) - still no data.     - ISA reports not showing any data We ahve a windows 2000 Small Business Server. We really do not use ISA because we have a Watchguard Firebox 700 on our network. However, I have recently been asked to begin providing statistics on network usage, sites visited etc... Watchguard reports are not nearly as nice as the ISA reports. However, when I generate the reports, there isnl;t any data at all. I have checked the following... 1) The ISA web and firewall proxy are both "running" 2) The log services have been enabled 3) Under Access policy -> Site and Content rules, I have an "allow rule" for certain users (one of which I am) for access to anything. (the watchguard uses to WebBlocker) If I browse the interent (even on the Small Business Server machine - loggeed on as myself) I do not see anything showing in the "sessions" area as I expected I would. I must just not have something turned on properly. Can someone tell me exactly what needs to be configured in ISA in order for all web requests etc.. to go through the ISA server (firewall and web proxy services) and be logged so as to be able to generate reports?     - Changing internal NIC I need to change my main LAN NIC. It is currently a 10/100 but I want to swap it for a 10/100/1000 NIC. Will this be as simple as installing the new NIC and transferring the IP address from one to the other?     - Exchange Restore We had to reinstall our Sbs 2k server. Everything running ok. Now need to restore exchange. We have the system information store and mailboxes backed up using veritas. I dont quite understand the documentation. Do we have to recover both the information store AND the mailboxes? Or can I restore individual mailboxes without restoring the information store? The server names, domain etc are all the same but does exchange have to running the same service packs as when the store/mailboxes were backed up?     - Terminal services advice Hi, We're a very small company trying to open an equally small office in another state. We run apps like Word and Outlook on the desktops, although all the data is stored on our server for backup and monitoring since what we do needs to be confidential. We also run the program for our contact manager, Maximizer, from the desktops, although the central database for Maximizer is located on the server. We access the Maximizer database from the desktop through a mapped drive. The desktops run Win2000, the server runs Win2000 and SBS 2000. We do a lot of marketing, so we want to have all of our client contacts for both offices in a central database. Therefore, I'm looking at using a VPN or Terminal Services to link the two offices. One wrinkle: we also are using VoIP for our telephone system so that everything comes through a central telephone number, too. I don't know if this is an issue given the size of the pipe between the 2 offices. My questions: 1) Given our situation, is TS appropriate for what I want to do? Or will VPN work? We will have at most 3-5 people in the other office. We have 4 users here in this office. I also have a friend who is going to help us out with sales who will be working from home who hopefully will be able to access the database, too. 2) How will I need to set this up? I posted this question during on another thread, and the person said TS was appropriate, but also said "you can't run it in app mode in SBS2003, and shouldn't in any prior version." What does that mean? 3) She also recommended setting up another Win2000 server in my office to run TS in app mode. How can this be done economically (e.g., do I really need another server, and how can I keep the cost down on that given Win2000 and SBS2000 are expensive)? I'm trying to set up another office in a desparate attempt to stay in business, so I really need to minimize the cost of the implementation. 4) What costs will be involved - what can I expect? 5) How easy is this to set up and maintain? I do the maintenance for our office as best I can right now, but I'm not a tech person. I haven't had any luck finding a good tech person in Charlotte, NC since we are so small even though we use a lot of technology given our size. The guys who can do it want maintenance contracts, which we don't have enough need to make it financially feasible, and the smaller guys really don't have experience in working with SBS 2000.     - update sbsclnt When I first installed our server win2k sp3 was the most current os. If a user logs on and has win2k sp2 or lower I get a screen that asks them to update. I would really like to make this option include sp4 instead of sp3. Is there a script or something that I can edit that changes the location of sp3 to the location of sp4? or is there some other trick to make this happen?     - Active Directory Hi there, I have just run dcpromo to take a W2K server out of a domain and then rebooted and searched across the VPN link to find the SBS2K Server and joined into that domain to get a member server. I now want to promote the member server to a domain controller at this remote site and later add a subnet to the site and services section of the main SBS Server. However I get the following message when running dcpromo to promote the member server: Active Directory Installation Wizard The wizard cannot gain access to the list of domains in the forest.     - Bizare Printing Problem Hi all A real strange one here!!! A user is attempting to print from a sage application and gets the following message "the calling application refused the spool request" The user is an administrator of the machine. If I make the user an ADMINISTRATOR, it prints fine so it's obviously a permissions problem but where?!?!? I have tried changing permissions everywhere but no success! If I log onto the machine as local administrator it works fine. The user can print from any other application. It only happens with any new users that I create, users that have been set up a while have no problems. Anybody with any suggestions??? Please help, im desperate!!!     - Delete User's inbox I deleted a user but when I go to the SBS Administrator Console under "Mailboxes" I still see the Mailbox for that user in there. I will be recreating that same user in few hours and I need to be sure that anything related to that user is gone. Is there anyway to speed the process of not seeing that mailbox there in few hours?     - Viruses in Exchange Server I keep getting the following virus notification: Virus Found in Program Files\Microsoft Backoffice\Connectivity\Pop3 Connector\Incoming\MSG07312004-111506-3382.MMD W32.Netsky.P@MM!ENC Quarantine Succeeded I get 1 or 2 of these a day on the server. All my virus definitions are up to date, the real time detection is on (that's what catches them) and I do a complete scan for viruses 3 times a week.     - VPN Not Working Anymore I set up a VPN so I could log into the server from home. It worked great for awhile, but now all of a sudden it stopped. I can still log into the server and use tsweb and I can still log into the exchange server to check email, but I can no longer get files using the UNC.     - Explorer Mail issue When i open Outlook via Internet Explorer > Favourites > My Mail i see loads of e-mails that i have deleted from my deleted folder in Outlook. Infact just about every e-mail i have ever sent/received is in here. What is the relationship between opening my mail and viewing this way and viewing through Outlook.     - Cannot change user amail address I have set up a number of users in sbs2k. Some of them need to have their primary smtp address as <alias>@adifferentdomain.co.uk. When ever I add this new address and make it the primary one, or simply modify the existing primary one, within about a minute or so it gets changed back to the previous address. ie <alias>@myemaildomain.co.uk Any suggestions?     - Login Script problem Hi, We have SBS 2000 server and I have created a login script to sync the server time to all the clients system. One week back i installed one system with Windows 2000 Advance Server as Aditional Domain Controller.     - spontaneous user account deletion problem BACKGROUND INFO: I have SBS2000 with sp4. We are supposed to have 30 user licenses on the server. The original system was mis ordered as far as version and number of licenses, and the entire process preceded my working with this system. The license count screen is corrupted, with no graphic background, and states that 2000 licenses are present. In the last two days my user account has been deleted twice overnight. When I come in the domain account is gone as is my mailbox. FYI my last name starts with a Y and is last in the user list. We have user objects that exceed 30 but many are former employees or unused test accounts. I deleted two or so today but it is possible that with the addition of user last week we hit 50 user objects. In addition I added a new 5 user CAL although I was not able to get a valid license count to write down after adding the licenses. QUESTIONS: 1. Do you have suggestions on how to fix the licensing screen and information? 2. What are likely issues/causes of the account deletion?     - How do I access a device from outside the network? I need to access a DVR (digital video recorder) from outside the local network. The DVR is setup on the network with an internal IP.     - SMTP virtual server eating up bandwidth Hello, I have a SBS2003 install that has been working fine for almost a year now, but just last week my client calls me and tells me that their WEB connection is really slow, so I log in through Terminal server and right away I can see it's struggling. Make a long story short, I found out that the SMTP virtual server in exchange was the culprit; Note that the actual SMTP service is fine, it's just the virtual server that's the problem! As soon as you turn it on their bandwidth goes down, again although the actual service is running... I tried all the usual suspects, viruses/worms/trojans, denial of service attacks, checked all settings not only for the SMTP virtual server but for all other protocols. They all look fine to me. There's nothing on queue. Uninstalled/reinstalled the SMTP service, applied SP1 to exchange, there are no processes pegging the CPU at 100%, either with the virtual server on or off.     - Planning VPN Scenario: Customer wants some of their users to use VPN to connect to a remote site so they can use their terminal server. I'll round up the settings for each site. Head office: SBS2000, 2 x NIC, 2MB ADSL, Draytek Router, Fixed IP Internal NIC = 10.0.0.2, 255.255.255.0 External NIC = 192.168.1.10, 255.255.255.0 Router - 192.168.1.1, 255.255.255.0 Remote Site: Server2000, 1 x NIC, 2MB ADSL, Sonicwall Firewall/router, Fixed IP Server NIC = 192.168.27.20 Router = 192.168.27.254 The Sonicwall firewall requires the VPN client to load specific software. When I connect a client with this software directly to the router at head office, give it the address 192.168.1.5, and manually fill out the DNS settings that the ISP gave me, it connects with no problems. When I connect the client to the sbs network, it fails. Everything else works ok, and I can access the internet. Could this be something to do with ISA, or am I barking up the wrong tree? We have received a new server along with Exchange 2003 Server (standard) and Exchange user CALS. My question is if it will be an issue to incorporate this into the current framework. From what I have gathered, I can: 1. Uninstall the exchange component from SBS 2000 2. Run adprep on the SBS 2000 server to extend AD schema (is this necessary, since the exchange server shouldn't be installed on a domain controller anyway) 3. Install Windows 2003 server on the new box 4. Join the new Windows Server 2003 box to the SBS 2000 domain 5. Install Exchange server 2003 on the Windows 2003 box 6. Configure users for exchange features in AD through SBS 2000 box. Is this it for adding an exchange server into the organization? I have previously set this up on SBS2000 and its been running quite well for
12 months now (actually installed over 2 years ago).

Has anyone else attempted to setup a oneway Satellite/ISDN return broadband
connection on SBS2003 using CEICW? Were you successful? How far did you
get? What option from the CEICW did you use?

I have installed the DirecPC software (compatibilty mode) and can basically
get connection setup using the Broadband with FixedIp option. The
Terrestrial (ISDN) outgoing connection occurs when say opening a web page
but nothing appears to be received via the Satellite. I have confirmed that
there is actually a connection to the Satellite from the internet.

Is it the basic firewall that could be causing it? Any thoughts on where
else to look?
