Well guys and gals, Kevin took the weekend off to entertain his wife
news://msnews.microsoft.com:119/OvKkG44iDHA.3556@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl
[That was very sweet of him] so we're just going to have to hum a few
tunes ourselves..... me I've been humming Duran Duran tunes....
http://www.duranduran.com/

Why you ask?

Well because they will be at the Partner Celebration in New Orleans next
Saturday.
http://www.microsoft.com/partner/events/wwpartnerconference/agenda.htm

Why is this of any importance [beside reminding me that I had a crush on
John Taylor and Simon LeBon in High School and still have a vintage
button from that era to prove it?]

Because dear SBSers ...unless you've been living under a rock for the
past couple of weeks you would know that in 3 days and 6 hours SBS2k3 is
going to be released at the Partner Conference in New Orleans
and while I can't be there... I know some other SBSers that will be. :-)

--------------------------------------

But before I launch into SBS news...
remember SECURITY BULLETIN 03-040 released on FRIDAY NIGHT [that means
it's a critical one and exploits of this HAVE been discussed on Full
Disclosure and other listserves]

There is a IE patch AND a media player patch.
Needed on all servers and workstations
Shut down A/V, Exchange and even backup [all third party stuff] before
doing Windows Update on your servers. Consider as a best practice
rebooting your server before updating to ensure that and post patch
issue is truly a post patch issue. Remember, any issue caused by a
security bulletin is a free PSS call. Make sure you tell them you are a
SBSer to get to Texas and North Carolina.

I'm stealing Harry's SMBNation update for inclusion here [I need to do
the feedback myself!]

Hello again!

Before we all get distracted by the SBS 2003 launch late next week,
let's wrap up SMB Nation 2003!

* The conference survey is ready to go. Kindly click over to
http://www.smbnation.com/survey.htm and take a few moments to reflect on
SMB Nation and complete the survey. You will be rating the conference
and speakers. Please be honest.
* When you complete the survey, don't miss out on the opportunity
(at the bottom of the survey page) to receive a 20 percent discount
coupon for "Small Business Server 2003 Best Practices" which is due late
November 2003.
* Mark your calendars for SMB Nation 2004 in San Diego. It'll be in
mid/late September 2004. Serious planning for this conference will
commence in just a couple of months. I look forward to seeing you again
and I sincerely hope that I've earned your repeat business.
* I'm putting the final touches on a series of SMB Nations Summits
that will be one-day intensive workshops (with fun included) which will
travel in 2004. I'll keep you posted - I'm planning on 20 such events.
Planned venues are SMB Nation Summits in Canada (January 2004),
Australia/New Zealand in late January/early February 2004, London in
Spring 2004 and in Crested Butte Colorado in the first week of April
2004 (you guessed it - half day of work, half day of skiing).
* Be sure to participate in the on-going SMB consulting discussions
by joining the Yahoo newsgroup: SmallbizIT. Click over to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/smallbizIT (this will be the primary forum
for on-going communication between SMB Nation alumni).
* Please contact me directly if you have photos and video of the
SMB Nation conference. I'd like to acquire your works to create a Web
page and AVI video file (especially our MONSTER GARAGE event with the
SBS Mobile). I can be reached at harryb@nethealthmon.com
* Please let me know how you like the "SMB Consulting Best
Practices" book you received at the conference. You're feedback is most
helpful. Don't be shy about posting your feedback at both Amazon (link:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1887542116/qid=1065113684/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/103-2333827-7361451
) and BN (link:

* I can always be reached at 206-915-3072 anytime if you have any
questions at all.

Thank you so very much (again) for participating in SMB Nation 2003!
Special thanks to the sponsors and volunteers!

cheers...harrybbbb

Kucinich backer hacks CBS News site
The CBS News site was apparently hijacked by a supporter
of Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich on
Friday morning. Visitors to the CBSNews.com Web site were
presented with a text message and a video promoting the
candidacy of the congressman from Cleveland. A CBS
representative said the company was "looking into
the problem." The network appeared to remedy the
situation shortly after it began.
