Hi everyone,
I'm faced with a big dilema & hope someone
can help me. After eventually getting a VPN set up, I
discovered that the Remote client can access all shares
except the Access database. Unfortunately this is the
resource that's needed by 4 remote users & why we chose
SBS 2000 for VPN. The error message leads to Kb article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;810582&Product=acc2002

It's basically saying we need to develop the access front
end on the Remote Clients. We don't have the resources or
money for this & i was wondering if there were any
alternale solutions? The database can be accessed through
VPN & TS ( why this way & not VPN? ) but this means he
has Administrator priveleges. Is it possible to allow a
Remote user with Domain Users access a TS session? What
are the alternatives?

TIA

Gary

VPN is not an SBS feature but found on all server2000 platforms. If it
works on TS and not VPN, and your clients are XP or 2000 Pro then why not
continue to use TS in app mode vs VPN? It would be faster and more secure.

Hi Mark, thanks for your reply. That seems to be the
option after looking through Google. There's no way i can
spend the time developing .Net Front End for the Remote
Client OR upgrade the database to SQL. Where can I get
the best Information on Terminal Services in Application
mode? Can I restrict the Remote User to just use of the
database as I don't want them to have full administrator
priveleges which seems the only option as far as I can
see in SBS? Two TS sessions included in package in
Administrator mode? Any pointers appreciated.

Thanks

Gary

admin mode 2 concurrent can still be locked down but more than 2 users you
need app mode (they don't have to be admins then). Using SBS2000 you are
cool for now, since 2003SBS doesn't have app mode. Xp Pro and 2000 Pro
don't require licenses but do require a license server be setup. You can
launch 1 app on startup using the environment tab. My applauncher.com site
has a few TS papers that may help. If you are REALLY lost, drop me a note.

Thanks Mark _ i'll look into it & try talking the remote

Thanks,
