SBS2000 w/ 2 nic, Client Win2000

Have 2 issues, not sure if they are related.

Just installed a Sharp AR-M280 network printer that has static IP of
192.168.16.250 that is constantly dropping off LAN. Try to ping and it
times out.

Have adjusted and turned off power saving features but it still looses
connection with LAN.
Once you turn it off and back on then it is recognized on the LAN (can be
pinged from server or
workstations).

Also, when I leave Outlook Express 6 running for an extended length of time
(while watching this newsgroup) it is getting an error message "The TCP/IP
connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server." Once I close and
open OE it is fine (for a while).

Any ideas?

Did you put that printer-IP in the exclusionset of your DHCP-server?

No it isn't in exclusion list... But I see a Reservation entry. From help
looks like it should be listed there.

I try to enter a name, static IP I've assigned and the MAC of the printers
NIC and click ADD, but it doesn't appear to take. Any ideas on proper
format for adding MAC address?

I'm using xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (that is 2 characters then a colon then 2
characters and another colon etc) I've tried both upper case and lower
case.

For what it's worth, I've never used the reservations in DHCP. I exclude
some 30 IP's from the DHCP-scope. Those excluded IP's are for servers,
printers, routers and that kind of thing.
Try it that way.

Ok, I'll give it a try!

I've got the Printer Tech guys scratching there heads, they've ordered a new
NIC that they are bring in on Thursday. I was hoping to maybe save them a
trip as well as figure this one out myself!

Can the workstations ping it or is it just the server that loses its
ability to see it. I had a problem once where the server could nbot
see the printer unless I rebooted. The workstations could ping it.
Microsoft PSS looked in the server and saw some junk in the routing
table. Well I think that is what they saw.

When it is has "lost LAN" it can not be pinged from server or workstations.
Once you turn it off and back on then it can be pinged and works fine.
Unfortunately someone shut it off last night so I can't test if adding the
static IP to the exclusion list allowed it to stay on LAN with several hours
of inactivity and now everyone is arriving in office so it will be in use...
(Never fails)

That seems to be doing the trick! I excluded the range from 250 to 2
