Exactly what happens when you exceed the maximum number of users supported
by SBS?

We are currently running SBS 2000 and I think we are over the limit.
However, everyone seems to be able to login and there doesnt' seem to be
any problems. We actually have only 45 licenses.

Please don't post you "opinion" of what you think should happen. I want to
hear from somebody who knows for sure. Thanks.

SBS 2000 was easier.

License logging shut off? Nothing will happen.
License logging turned on, people will be unable to log in.

Mind you ...you are in violation now of your EULA if you shut it off.

you have 2 options....go to 2003 so you can get over that hump. Or,
breakout to regular 2000 or 2003 and if you have that many users, that 16GB
IS is probably tight!

do you have more than 45 defined users?

if so it's only a problem if they are all trying to access the server at the
same time.

How can you tell if "license logging" is turned on? Is it turned on by
default? I've got a somewhat virgin install of SBS 2000. That's to say, I
avoid messing with the server whenever possible. Thanks for your help.

We've been doing alot of hiring lately. I have about 65 users right now.
They don't usually log in all at once but the other day, I checked out the
network. I had about 55 users on. I thought to myself, "How is this
possible with only 45 licenses?". I always expected SBS to let me know one
way or another when I exceeded the user limit. Guess not...

I'll be going to the regular 2003 server pretty quick. I ran the numbers
and SBS 2003 just isn't worth it at the rate we're growing right now.

Question for you? You said that you have been hiring a lot lately and
I was curious what method you have been using to find good
employees...newspapers, websites, agencies. I am looking to start
hiring again and have heard that monster is good to use but wanted
your imput.

You're talking to the IT guy. That's more of question for human resources.
I know we use Monster. Also, alot of people are hired from ads placed in the
local paper. (Orange County Register) Our industry, electronic
manufacturing services, is just getting back on its feet. There's still
alot of people to choose from who were layed off a few months back.

Good luck on your hiring!
