I am in the near future going to have to install the fax service onto our
sbs2000 server. My question is what modem is the best to use. This install
will not actually be our main fax line just a sending fax line, no
receiving. Boss does not want to get rid of the physical fax machine.

Would a USR fax modem do the duty or should I purchase a higher quality fax
modem?
Thanks
Eddie

Eddie,

First of it is best to use an external modem that way the modem can be
reset without rebooting the system. Second spend a little more up front for
a good modem it will pay for itself in the long run. Probably the most
reliable modem I have seen is the USR Courier V.Everything EXT.

For people that dont want to get rid of the fax machine, I normally suggest
putting the fax machine on a different line, for sending only, and put the
fax modem on the real fax line, for sending and receiving, with received
faxes printed automatically. I then make the fax line call forward on no
answer or busy to the real fax machine so they dont lose them if the modem
ever locks up or when the server is down.
