I have a user who's Outlook 2000 client hung, she used
Ctrl+Alt+Del to end the task on Outlook. When Outlook was
restarted all the mails in the her inbox have gone, all
the other personal folders are there & another mail
accounts inbox box is still there. Also the mail account
still works ok & will send & receive mail.

Any ideas

Teach your user to use the File, Shut down and Log off in Outlook.
If you have an Exchangeserver, there shouldn't be personal folders in the
Outlook profile.

The user would have used File, shut down but as I posted
Outlook had hung, so see could not use the correct shut &
log off. Also when I say personal folders I meen she has
created her own folder to store mails.

But thanks anyway.

Sorry, hadn't seen the 'hung'. Any idea what she was doing prior to the
hung? Emails just can't be gone like that if she just has the
Exchange-server profile.

Firstly,

Couple of questions to ask ourselves.

1- If she logs onto a different PC is she still unable to
see these missing e-mails?
//If she Can then this would appear to be a local Outlook
issue

2- Open MS Outlook and click Help > Detect and Repair.
//This may resolve if it is a local Outlook issue.

I moved mailboxes from one server to another once in
Exchange and for some strange reason Exchange decided not
to move some of the e-mails across that were in the users
inbox.

The user was away from her desk & when she got back it had
hung.

Her manager logged on to another machine as her & said he
could see her mails, but when I got there he tried it
again & it was the same as her inbox.

Have you tried 'recovering deleted items'?
