Hi.

I'm going to migrate from a single SBS2000 OEM installation to a new server
with windows 2003 Standard and Exchange 2003 standard. How can I do this
without loosing my domain.

Best Regards
Per

You can install the new Server as a Member Server (Replica DC) of your
existing SBS Domain and transfer the FSMO roles and make it a GC ( First
part of the Migration document on the Microsoft website ) and then DC
Promo it to Full AD DC after removing the SBS Box, but you'll lose the
servername.

If you want to keep the servername as well you may have to look at the
"Swing It" method from Jeff Middleton
register at www.sbsmigration.com. and give him 24 hours to contact you.

Of course, back up your data and exmerge your exchange accounts ( and
pst the public folders ) to transfer your exchange data.

What is a Replica DC, a standard member server?

Is it possible to run DC promo on the new server when the other one is a
SBS, thought SBS only allowed one DC?

Best Regards

NOTE: SBS is NOT restricted to 1 Domain Controller.

Replica DC = what used to be called Backup Domain Controller (BDC) pre
Active Directory, so yes, you can DC Promo the member server to being a
DC in the SBS Domain.
