    - DNS Error 4515 Hi My SBS 2003 server has the following error in the DNS event viewer "The zone zilcom.local was previously loaded from the directory partition MicrosoftDNS but another copy of the zone has been found in the directory partition DomainsDnsZones.Zilcom.local. The DNS Server will ignore this new copy of the zone. Please resolve this conflict as soon as possible." My DNS console only lists part of my dns structure but when I run ADSI the full list shows up under the domaindnszones. The forestdnszones has a heading of dc=_msdcs.zilcom.com under the CN=MicrosoftDNS. This contains mostly things to do with ldap and kerberos and lists nothing to do with the computers on the network. So if the ADSI utility can list my entire dns structure under the domaindnszones but my dns console only lists part of this structure then something has gone astray.     - Exch mailbox can't reconnect Old SBS 2000 due for replacement had sys vol drive crach. Tape drive also 5+ years old. Got back all required data but Exch Info Store was unstable and would't mount. Isinteg -p was last resort and it worked. Store mounts and I can see all the old mailboxes. Of course new user accounts are not associating themselves to same mailbox nave in the store (they create a second mailbox with same name). By the way email in/out is working fine. Now for problem (symptoms): I can view all mailboxes (old and new) in system manager ... mailbox store but when I right click an old mailbox, reconnect is unavailable (dimmed) Next thought was to use exmerge to extract to pst and then import back in. However exmerge only lists (shows access to new mailboxs and none of the old mailboxes). Tried KB 262054 to reset security on mailboxes.     - Reinstalling SBS 2000 the drive on our server that was running SBS 2000 crashed on us. we managed to take the backup of it after it failed. so we made our Backup Domain Controller running Windows 2000 server Service pack 4 as the PDC. reinstallation seems to be the way to go at this point. and reinstalling SBS doesn't seem straight forward.Firstly, I cannot install Active Directory without being in the domain, it says setup has detected a duplicate DNS Domain Name on the network(which is correct becoz the server crashed on an existing domain). it cannot continue with the setup when joined to the domain as well. when I join the new computer(on which sbs2000 is being reinstalled) to the existing domain, ADMT does not work ..it says i need to transfers users & computers using different domains. any clues on this would be great. thank you.     - Missing email issue... This is a strange one and I'm just looking for ideas or suggestions at this point.. We have been dealing with a travel company for a long time and have received email from them no probs - that is up until the beginning of May roughly. Now, none of their emails are arriving at our Exchange server and they are not getting a bounce back message either... We deal with a 3rd party company called Spam Soap that all of our mail is filtered through first, and even they checked their inbound logs and did not see any sign of email arriving from the domain "uniglobevoyageurtravel.com". I am suspecting possibly a bad DNS server somewhere that is reporting an incorrect IP address from their end? But then you'd expect they would get a bounce back msg wouldn't you? And since we have been with Spam Soap for well over a year, I can;t understand why this would just happen now... I could understand if we just switched to them - as it takes a bit for DNS servers to refresh their cache... In talking with them (Uniglobe Travel) they seem to think it is our problem, but like I told them, their email is not even being routed to the Spam Soap servers so there is no way we can get it...     - Access SBS 2000 share over VPN I'm having trouble mapping a Windows SBS 2000 shared folder over a VPN connection. This is a stand alone server in a workgroup (no AD, Routing and Remoting, etc - just a plain file server). I was having the same issue accessing a Windows XP shared folder in the same LAN, turned off Windows firewall and it worked.     - What autosets IE proxy on a sbs2k network? I think I originally had the sbs2k server setup as the proxy for the network for caching reasons, etc. Our traffic to the internet now goes straight out through a hardware firewall. The issue is, when setting up a new user and a number of other tasks, IE auto defaults to using the sbs and port 8080 for a proxy. Then the users are not able to get to the internet. I have to walk them through the steps of going to tools>options>connections> uncheck use a proxy... Where on the sbs can I go to change this default client assignment? When I try to connect to the site I receive the following message from ISA: HTTP 502 Proxy Error - The specified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port is not allowed. ISA Server is not configured to allow SSL requests from this port. Most Web browsers use port 443 for SSL requests.     - Is it SBS 2000 or not? Can't Tell. What is the best way to tell if a system is running SBS2k or not? I was recently at a customer site and noticed that the Ctrl-alt-del screen and the start button said server 2000. So I was sure it was running plain 'ol server 2000. But I noticed the sbs2k console was installed, I ran it and it came up fine. I looked in the add remove programs and it had small business server listed. We ultimately decided to go web-based because it was easier to manage, easy to monitor (as a manager), easy to setup and it ultimately protect our desktops from unwanted viruses.     - Synching to an atomic clock... I have a windows 2000 SBS and want to synch to a time service. I did the following things... 1) Stopped the time service "net stop w32time" 2) Set the time server.. "net time /setsntp:windows.time.com" 3) entered "w32tm - once" 3) Started the time service again... Now, will it automatically synch once per day by default or do I need to specify further parameters to do this?     - SBS2000 X225 Server Last week updates were downloaded and installed from Windowsupdate for the server. The server was not restarted. Yesterday morning the server had a message saying it was shutting down. We do not know how long it was there but when nothing happened after 45minutes it was hard shutdown. A restart showed no errors in any of the logs and all services started okay. Since then the server has Frozen or Hard Locked with no access from the network, console, etc., 3 times. The last time it occurred it was being monitored (task manager running, scanning drives, installing monitoring software). Memory usage running at around 600Mb, processor at around 20%. Screen just froze in place (ie. what was on the screen stayed there). No mouse, keyboard (no numlocks or caplocks). Server is still running, fans still running, no harddrive activity at all. On each occasion there are no errors in any logs, no actual events in the logs around the time of the freeze, nothing. And the server starts perfectly each time Server specs are: X225 server, Xeon 2.4Ghz, 512Mb, 2 x 36Gb SCSI hot swap drives with a 5i RAID card and drives are mirrorred. External modem, UPS. There are 3 partitions (RAID not windows) on the drive with paging split onto 2 different partitions. Thoughts are leaning towards possible hardware problems (ram, SCSI controller, SCSI cage) but seeing as a restart was not undertaken after the update installation last week could this be a possibility? Are now going through ensuring BIOS, Firmware, etc is all up to date but just in case someone else has been down this path and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.     - Joined a Vista Laptop to SBS2000 - OUCH! Please Help! I setup RADIUS on the SBS2K server and changed the WiFi encryption from WEP to WAP using RADIUS. A Windows XP laptop seemed to work fine with it. I then plugged a network cable into a stable Vista laptop, joined the domain, then configured the WiFi on the laptop to match the router's settings. After doing that, I unplugged the Ethernet cable, logged out, and logged back in on the Vista laptop. During that process, I added a domain group (which includes the laptop's user) as a member of the local administrators group on the laptop - just as I do on the WinXP machines. I'm now getting all sorts of wild and crazy error messages on the Vista laptop, most apparently have something to do with ownership/security/permissions on files and folders. I tried to manually add the domain user to the file and folder permissions (full control). In vain. I tried to run a System Restore on the laptop to the day prior to all this. It ran, then upon rebooting, it said that the System Restore failed to complete successfully. I then dis-joined the laptop from the domain (put the laptop back to using a workgroup). I also reverted the security settings on the router and the laptop's WiFi connection. Then I tried to run the System Restore again. The same error again. Has anyone had any similar issues with Windows Vista? Any suggestions (besides throwing the laptop out a window on the 14th floor)? Thanks.     - How can I disable ISA server in SBS 2000, aside from uninstalling Once, I actually paid for support from Microsoft and part of the process was disabling ISA server. I don't remember how it was done. A year later it sems ISA is back on and I'm having some problems for numerous reasons, as you could imagine. I tried to uninstall ISA and windows tells me that an application (ISA related, I'm sure) must be stopped first. So, that route doesn't work. On the client computer I added the VPN connection to network connections and can establish a connection by right clicking on the connection and selecting "Connect". After doing so I am able to view files, connect to the server using remote desktop and view are local intranet. However, when trying to login by selecting "Log on using dial-up connection" from the windows logon screen the connection is established, however user is unable to login. The message tells me to check username, domain and password.     - Pop3 Connector Hi, We did a delete all of our files in mailroot\vsi 1\Badmail directory yesterday to free up disk space (delay maintainance), now we are not receiving any emails via our Global ISP Host.     - Vista SP1 file copy issue - HELP !! We have a group of Vista clients happily connected to our SBS 2000 server for 9 months - NO PROBLEMS. I have now upgraded 2 of the clients to SP1 and they are both exhibiting the same problem - I cannot copy files larger than 1MB to the shared folders on the server.     - Problem with Windows licence on Windows SBS 2003 R2 Due to a server failure I tried starting up the server in safe mode, that didn't work. Next I used the original Windows install CD to do a re-install of Windows SBS 2003 R2 (not a full install). However, when I enter the login details of the Administrator in the logon screen, the folowing message is displayed: "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the status of the licence for this computer. To proceed, your copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft. Do you want to activate now?". If I click 'yes' I am redirected tot the login screen. If I click 'no' I am redirected to the login screen. If I click 'cancel' the computer shuts down. The above means that there seems to be no way to bypass this activation check. The strange thing is that the clients are able to login to the server.     - windows sbs 2000 Logon - logoff loop hello. I have a HP ML 350 G2 running Windows sbs 2000. The main problem is that I cant get to the desktop anymore when I start the server. The server boots and gets to the screen where I type in my username and password to get to desktop. It accepts user and password, starting loading the desktop, gets as far as loading my background wall paper, and then the "saving user settings" dialog comes up and I am taken back to the initial user/password screen again automatically. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were with regards to
putting Microsoft Forefront security on a SBS Premium R2 server and
workstations. Is the product ready for prime time? Does it install
well or seriously impact the resources on a SBS lan? Is it cost
effective...or are there better solutions out there?

Also, a side note...does anyone think its necessary to put a Dell
Remote Access card on a server given that you access all those same
features from within the Dell Open Management console? Just
wondering?

I have no knowledge of Forefront, but I can tell you that the DRAC's main
value shows when you need to remotely cycle the machine off/on because
there's no one on site to do it. Weigh the cost against the cost of an
on-site visit either on a weekend/holiday or at 3:00 in the morning.
