I was hired a few months ago to a company that currently is using two
domains. The SBS2K server (domain1) is being used as a web and file server.
I don't know the whole history of why they did this, but at this point some
of the users and all the computers have been moved over to the other domain
(domain2). Our ultimate goal is to get rid of domain1. Domain2 has two
DC's--one is Win2K3 Enterprise (our Exchange server) and the other is Win2K
Advanced.
We want to:
1) Migrate the users and settings from domain1 to domain2
2) Set up a DFS between the SBS2K and a Win2K Advanced server in domain2
3) Change both domains from mixed mode to Win2K mode.
It seems to me that combining the two domains into one forest will make
both of these goals easier (or at least the DFS).

What "gotchas" can we expect in attempting these? Is my basic thinking
sound? I've tried to review as much info and documentation as possible, but
I'm not 100% sure about all of this.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry Brian
You are out of luck
SBS must be the first server at the root of the AD Domain and Forest and =
does not support trusts.

You will simply have to migrate those users and any data to the Win2k3 =
domain.

Okay... that was what I thought initially. But I keep coming across web
pages and posts that seem to say that if the SBS domain is still in control
of the forest, then other domains can be added to that forest. Here's an
example: http://fac.ce.vreau.eu.org/sbs.html Is this not the case?
I don't know if this helps or not, but the server that's currently
running SBS2K is eventually going to be reformatted to have Win2K Advanced
installed on it. Point being, we won't need both domains to work together
permanently. But right now all the users are authenticating off of the SBS'
domain. So I guess the item of primary importance is being able to move
those users from the SBS2K machine to the domain where a Win2K Advanced and a
Win2K3 Enterprise servers are DCs. Do the two domains need to be in the same
forest for this to be possible?

You simply cannot have additional domains with SBS

As for moving the users...I've not played with it, but I believe what =
you are going to need is the ADMT (Active Directory Migration Too)
