How on earth can a ME laptop overpower the server ?

The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
LAPTOP that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on
transport NetBT_Tcpip_{50A473D8-E636-4. The master browser is stopping or an
election is being forced.

The 9x type OS's are notorious for this, but they should NOT ever win the
election when a DC (or even a member server) is online, so just ignore it,
or you can disable the ME client as a potential browser by editing the
settings under Client for Microsoft Networks (or whatever ME calls it) in
the Network properties pages. Sorry, I can't be more specific, I avoid ME
like the plague ;?}

This laptop is gonna be phased out and ME is the one I detest the most

Pretty powerful laptop there Giz. What have you been feeding it? Maybe you
ought to give up on your server and install SBS on the notebook. :-)

Tell the server it's the one and only Master Browser...

Turn off browser service on WinMe...

Network Neighborhood | File and Print Sharing for MS Networks | Properties |
Disable Browse Master.

Re: Master Browser election by Dave

Dave

I think the key to the log entry is the phrase:

"that believes that it is the master browser for the domain "

The log does not say the laptop won the browser election, just that it was
calling for one - the server should always win, unless IsDomainMaster is set
to FALSE in the registry, and it would only be that way if someone set it
manually. The PDC is King...if you are not sure, run BrowMon.exe (either
resource kit or support tools util) when the laptop gets connected to the
network and see what happens.

I'd bet the SBS will still list as Master Browser...

OK!!!!! Now will ANYONE finally see why I always say IsDomainMaster set to
TRUE (2 locations) should be a standard setup with SBS??!?!?! I've posted
that fix about 100 times for a reason :) Back in the intial release of 2000
it kicked my ass for a few weeks and there was NO KB or ANYTHING on it since
2000 was so new.

Thanks for reply Mark...(apologies for missing your other posts...found
loads in google SBS)

I just checked 3 servers and ALL are set to FALSE (current controlset,
controlset001 and controlset002)

I was wondering about others experiances with their servers and also WHY is
it set to false as a seemingly default.
