I was just wondering if it is possible, and allowed, to
make my old SBS2000 server a backup for a new server I am
putting together right now.
If so what procedures would I follow?
Many Thanks

No... you can't.

What are you setting up as your new server?

SBS2000 again. I was just looking at the possibility of
utilizing my old machine as some sort of redundant beast.

I dont see a problem with that!. As long as the old server
isnt being used there wont be a licensing problem..

Go for it.. if it works...

I'm not going to comment on the licensing issue here... because I frankly
don't know.

If Paul wants the 2 servers working side-by-side, so that he has real-time
redundacy... this is not possible with SBS2000.

If he wants to have a spare server ready to go in case the first one
fails... then he might pull it off. But, probably since there's a "new" and
"old" server... you cannot simply swap the drives and hope it works (and
then switch back? Mmmm... I think not). If the two servers were fairly (or
exactly) similar then it would be ok.

IMHO-> Get plain-vanilla Win2kSrv... put it on the old server and make it a
DC (use it as a file/printer server or something else). You won't have email
and internet if the SBS goes down... but you still have the company files
(and the ability to login).

Thank you for all input - My question is answered; Not
exactly as I had hoped, but so be it. I will probably
make it another workstation.
Thanks again
