A user in our company is being hit by spam mails at the
rate of 50 per day.
Last week they were all from the extention
variousnames@variousdomains.fi

now this week they are all from

variousnames@variousdomains.is

Is there anyway to stop these mails. Our spam killer is
stopping them and placing them in quarantine but as the
user knows noone from Finland why would he be getting
spammed from various .fi address's?

Any comments on this subject appreciated

Spam names are harvested from anywhere. Newsgroup posts, domain
registrations (That is why some domain registrars offer hidden names
and require that code to check domain info), regular email, infected
domestic machines spamming using fake addresses. Reply addresses mean
nothing. Not worth the time wonder where the spam gets addresses or
who really sent them. Only try to clean up as best can. Use email
antispam measure when posting to newsgroups.

Because spammers are everywhere, and they're bottom-feeding, unscrupulous
scumbags. They often move ops offshore where there are no laws against
spamming.

And this user may at some point have not been very wise about where he/she
posted their email address, and may've replied at some point to
'unsubscribe' - a big no no, of course.

What are you using to filter spam now? If you don't want to manage a
content-filtering server in-house, look at www.postini.com - very nice,
works like a champ.
