New client currently using lotus...Preparing spec for introduction to SBS2K.

Discussions about outlook...Anyone imported lotus into outlook, can it be
done, any pitfalls to be wary off ?

Are you planning to ditch the R5 server or just the client?
There are a couple connectors around that allow you connect Outlook to an R5
server, one from Lotus and one from MS.
Either way you can allow the users to connect to both servers while you
migrate.

But the for the definitive word (according to MS) check out

In early versions of SBS (4.5) you could not use the connectors (other than
internet mail connector). I'm curious if the site and other connectors
worked in 2000 or in 2003??

In one place I worked we had directory replication and mail routing against
Exchange 5.5 and Domino R5 using the MS connector. It was a bit limited
(user names no passwords) but worked okay, AFAIK the same organisation is
still using it (about 5000 names).

I had some problems with the Lotus Outlook Connector for Notes, was a little
shaky at times. I notice that MS has their own one out at the moment.

But with 5000 names that would not have been the small business server
version of Exchange.

Thanks for feed back guys...

I am trying to get my head around reading on Lotus...I dont remember seeing
configurations for lotus server...10 users seem to be on stand alone
application. I didn't see any sharing of data. NB one user had a laptop
change and we just ghosted hard drive at our workshop so no access to a
server.

My initial thought was to just import / export data into outlook...

No Chris not in that case, although apart from the storage limitations, it
should all work the same I would have thought.

So they are running the R5 client using POP3 or IMAP and just storing it
locally? Their is no Domino(Notes) Server?
Just a quick overview for you on the Notes Data storage.
All Notes databases are stored in files with an extension of .nsf. This is
true weather the database resides locally or on a Domino Server. E-mails
are normally stored in a .nsf file where the other part of the name is a
variation of the users name, normally their alias (not always though). This
can be determined by opening the location settings document (click on the
icons down in bottom right on status bar), the current location has a
setting on one of the tabs for the mail database location. Sorry if this
sounds a little complex, but it is like a lot of things simple once you get
your head around it but very confusing up until this point.

With the Outlook-Notes Connectors I have seen they connect to same mail
database as the install Notes Client regardless on where it lives. Assuming
you can do this my approach if it is only 10 users would be:

1) Get your SBS Server up and running and connect computers to Domain etc
etc.
2) Install Outlook clients with Exchange connections only and make sure all
works.
3) Get Exchange to start recieving/collecting mail.
4) Add Notes Connector to Outlook Clients
5) Copy E-mail from Notes mail boxes to Exchange using drag and drop.
6) Remove Notes Connector and Notes.
