        • mcafee groupshield & netshield - update Hi. My sbs2000 connects to the net via adsl, using ppp over ethernet protocol. Since two weeks ago, I was using a modem and raspppoe to connect, but, as you suggested, we decided to buy a router and remove pppoe -----"for obvious security reasons"---- ok, installed the router on the second nic, ran ICW, and everything was re-configured in few minutes and worked fine but.... but, starting that day, the antivirus solution installed on the server, mcafee groupshield and netshield, doesn't auto-update anymore..... I tried configuring the Av to use or not use the proxy server, but the result didn't change...... From the server I can surf the web, and even go, using explorer, to ftp.nai.com where the updates are resident......but the av says "can't connect to update server"..... Can you help me please??? Forgetting: all the clients are able to autoupdate their mcafee virusscan.... thanks bye Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132894

        • please help me I was wondering if anyone can shine some light on this particular error message. I am not able to find much on this subject beyond the description of what NetDDE is. I started receiving this error message and at the same time I am not able to access one of the servers on our network. I am able to ping and connect to the server by using the ip address, but I can't do it via it's name. I know it is not a WINS problem and all of my network settings are correct. Source: NetDDE Event ID: 206 Description: Listen failed: 15 this error message appears in the eventvwr every 30 minutes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- . You will recall from the last newsletter that two sessions during the day together are offered. The morning session is introductory in nature for the new SBSer. • mail Hi i am running sbs 2000 with a dial up connection to the internet. Up until recently, my server would dial up and download mail and on each workstation in microsoft outlook, mail would be in the inbox. I could see it without having to hit the send/receive button in ms outlook. Now, my server will still dial up and download mail but on each workstation in microsoft outlook, you have to hit the send/receive button to get mail. How can i change this back so that mail goes into the mailbox automatically again without having to hit the send/receive button in ms outlook? I do not understand what has changed as i have not changed anything. thanks Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132883

        • VPN Ok. Internet Dead. I have setup and configured a VPN to an offsite server which works fine. However, when I connect the VPN, I lose internet access. (Am running SBS2000 here). I saw a post a while back about a setting to change to allow internet access while connected to the VPN but I can't find it again. As I recall, it was very simple (couple of clicks) but damned if I can remember what it was! Thanks! Scott Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132856

        • Domain Name Hi, This is probably a stupid question. However, I will ask it anyway. I have run the SBS wizards to configure AD and Exchange with a domain name of "mydomain.local". The mail works fine. But when I checked one of the email addresses, it has the mydomain.local suffix. E.g. jo.bloggs@mydomain.local Where in Exchange do I configure the mail to use the internet registered domain name? For example, microsoft.co.uk suffix? (Other than on the exchange email addresses tab for each user account). Or is that it? Many thanks, Mark Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132836

        • Timestamp +2 hours when sending through FTP Hi all, I have a problem I could not find an answer to on Google and this ng. Our server has the correct time and timezone. Files created locally (either on the server or on the server drive by a connected client PC) have the correct timestamp. However, all files sent through FTP have a +2 hours time skew; i.e. when I send a file now, the timestamp is now + 2 hours. Needles to say, this creates all kinds of interesting problems I could happily live without. FTP is on IIS, FTP with server publishing rule and ISA. Server is SBS2000 with all recent servicepacks installed. I am sure this has something to do with GMT (we're in the GMT+2 timezone), but I cannot grasp HOW exactly. Help? • Trend Micro Anti-Virus I am looking for some feedback from current users of Trend Micro Client/Server/Messaging Suite. I am considering their Client/Server/Messaging Suite - 10 users package as an anti-virus solution for a Microsoft Small Business Server 2000. I want to be sure I fully understand the licensing before I purchase the product. On my Exchange server I have about 15 mailboxes configured. However, I only have 9 workstations. If I purchase the 10 user package, will this protect only 10 of my Exchange mailboxes or all 15? In other words, is the license count based on Exchange mailboxes, or client workstations? If the license count is based on workstations, would I be sacrificing any protection by purchasing a 5 user license to protect my server and installing a much cheaper client package like Norton antivirus on each workstation? The other question I have is in regards to product and virus pattern updates. From what I have found I have a 1 year subscription to download all updates. After the first year is over, what is the annual cost to continue to downloading virus patterns? I would hope I don't have to invest $600 each year for the latest virus patterns. Thanks for your input! Don Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132815

        • Some user can not login I installed SBS2000 on a Dell PE server and connected 5 WinXP client workstations with no problems. After a few days, because of certain issues, I re- installed SBS2000 on the server and configured it with the exacts settings (domain name, IP, users, etc) as the original installation. The problem is that only the administrator user name and someone else can login on the workstations. All other users can not login. I'm suspecting that I must reset something on the WinXP workstations in order for the order users to login. Any help will be appreciated. • Group Policy and Terminal Services Question My company has serveral directors who have two computers. One in the office on the LAN, and one at home. They use their home PC to connect in over a VPN and use Terminal Services to access their data. I therefore, have two servers set up, a SBS2K server and a Win2K Server set up for Terminal Services in Application Mode. I would like to configure a group policy to disable various aspects of the directors terminal services sessions (such as disable the shutdown command, etc.) but allow them normal access to their LAN PC's. I know it is possible to limit their Terminal Services sessions by settings up a OU in Active Directory > setting a User-based group policy with the appopriate settings on that OU > and finally moving the user account into the OU. Does anyone know how to achieve a scenario where, when they log in at the office these settings don't apply? Any help would be much appreciated. • Small business server Hello, I am having a problem with getting sbc yahoo dsl to work with MS small business server 2000. The problem that I am having is that the dsl is connecting but I can not use it. I know the dsl line is good because I can connect to the internet with a laptop. This is a new install of sbs on a Dell server. I worked with the folks at sbc and they think it is a microsoft problem. I beleive I have not set up something correctly. Is there specific instructions for a dsl setup? It looks like something is blocking the final step I have disconnected ISA but still have the same problem. • Info Store crash That was it ! thanks Gizmo, It was the Anti-Virus Software, we used Sophos. The bit about disconnecting the mailboxes was because of the fact we'd tried removing Exchange from AD and re-installing, and it doesn't like it one bit. No, it was definately the AV Software. We took a chance and uninstalled it for a week and exchange ran as normal. We then re-installed sophos and everything carried on as normal. We also made sure that the AV was not trying to scan drive M: - Hope you crack it Rick Lewis [MCP] Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132774

        • New VPN installation has ISA problem? I have an SBS2000 installation at home on which I have just run the Remote Access wizard. It happily lets me login via a workstation at work. But about a day after setup we are finding here at home that workstations intermittently cannot surf the web. The ISA client refuses to refresh at this time (either the server is down or it is not an ISA server is the message, although it immediately refreshes if I put in the IP no of the server... but still no browsing.) The problem seems to go away after a few minutes. Also we are finding that some people are having trouble logging on here.... again an intermittent problem. We have a fixed IP with a 56k modem here at home. All the packet filters are enabled. I have found one warning in the application log that isa server was dropping packets, but it does not correspond to the times of difficulty. Is there a common problem here that anyone is aware of? I'd be glad to hear from you Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132767

        • Help! Can't get SBS 2K to install on Dell PE 400Sc I get an 'invalid license key' error - but I purchased SBS2K directly from Dell so it should be legit. Also tried a license key supplied by Dell Tech Support - got same error. Any ideas? I hate to send this server back to Dell and give up but will, if I have to. • TSServer Licence needs Hello all, I'll be gals when this TServer is in and done. One (with many parts) more question. If I use Windows 2003 Server do I need to purchase TS licences for W2K clients? I know that XP and W2K do NOT need TS licences for Windows 2000 Server. How much are TS licences? I read a post suggesting that If I buy Windows 2003 Server I can install Windows 2000 Server from my existing SBS disks and use the 2003 Server licence to cover it, is this true? Does not happen and SP4 is not available in the the add software app. Outlook 2002 is avaiable for deployment. All clients are Win2K SP3. 2. I cannot access the modem. • SBS Freezing Up I have a Dell PowerEdge 2600 Dual 2.4 machine with 2GB running SBS (Exchange and ISA) with 16 users. This system has been deployed for about 7 weeks now and a problem has occurred for the last two weeks or so. Every few days the system basically locks up and requires a reboot to get everything running again. The course of events begins with the Information Store shutting down and basically the system just gets slower and slower from that point until a reboot is done. After the reboot everything is good again for 2-3 days and the same issue occurs. Each time I have verified that the Info Store is down and you can not simply restart it - that fails as well. For the time being I have set a dependency on the Info Store service that if it fails to reboot the PC. Hopefully this will buy me a few more days. Any suggestions? Thanks Kevin Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132697

        • Event ID: 2019 nonpaged pool empty Recently we had a problem at a customer's site where 12 of 16 desktop PC's were failing. These are Dell Desktop PC's. The failure occured every 5 days, like clockwork. When the failure occured the event viewer was filled with: "Event ID: 2019 Description: The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty" Note that 4 of the customer's PC's did not develop this problem. Task Manager, Performance tab, showed that the "non-paged" Kernel memory was slowly but steadily being used up. This resulted in a non-functioning PC after 5 days. Researching the event on the internet led to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;177415 "How to Use Memory Pool Monitor (Poolmon.exe) to Troubleshoot Kernel Mode Memory Leaks" The use of poolmon indicated a problem with a "tagged" driver, where the tag was "Smax". http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;298102 "How to Find Pool Tags That Are Used By Third-Party Drivers" Poolmon requires the user to watch the display for hours. Several high usage "tags" were noticed. Several of these tags can not be found using the above method. Presumably these are Microsoft drivers, and therefore need not be found because they could never be a problem. Hah. The driver found was: c:\winnt\system32\drivers\smwdm.sys driver name: smwdm.sys file version: 5.12.1.3508 modified: may 28 2003 This driver is used by the "SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio" device. The driver is authored by Analog Devices. The remaining 4 not-failing PC's had a different driver: driver name: smwdm.sys file version: 5.12.1.3538 modified: dec 20 2002 Note that the revision number differs in only one digit. We used device manager to disable the SoundMax Integrated Audio. Task Manager, Processes tab, showed that the Kernel Memory Nonpaged usage growth stopped immediately. Trying to do the right thing, we went searching for the updated driver. Since these were Dell PC's, we went to the Dell driver download site. At the Dell site, the SoundMax is also named "Analog Devices AD1885 Integrated Audio" . Unfortunately Dell only provided the failing driver version, and not the newer version. Yes, the 4 non-failing PC's were Dell also. Dell does not keep the drivers download section up to date. We went to the Analog Devices site. Unfortunately, Analog Devices does not provide drivers for download, and instead refers users to the PC Manufacturer or Mainboard manufacturer. Since Dell was not helpful, we looked at intel, who manufactures the Dell mainboards. Intel provides many drivers for many motherboards, and many drivers for "Analog Devices AD1885 Integrated Audio". But these drivers appear to be Mainboard specific. We did not have the option of traveling to the customer's site, and dis-assembling each PC to determine the Intel Mainboard identification. An updated driver for these PC's has not yet been found. But we have at least solved the main problem. The loss of sound capability can be handled. This problem has cost us a considerable amount of time and trouble. The result of the problem is a mysteriously dead PC. Since Dell, Microsoft, Analog Devices, and Intel were all involved, it should have been much easier to locate and repair. I post this here in the hopes that others may be spared the time and trouble. • 4 processors showing up New SBSer here, I have a dual processor machine with a fresh SBS installation, showing 4 processors in the server status console (performance counters section of the window). Is this normal? Also, just hooked up the first workstation and it takes a very long time to log in. I have pretty much just run through the to do list and that is all. This is a brand spanking new setup. thanks in advance gang... Fred Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132685

        • SBS Server 2003 set up I'm opening another office and want to keep customer information at only one location. I plan to use VPN for the remote clients to access the server. I plan to use MS Access for the client forms (I know it integrates with SQL Server), and to use Quickbooks Pro too. Is it a problem to use Quickbooks Pro (allows networking) on one server for both offices, and will there be a signficant decrease in speed in my remote applications if I'm using a regular DSL connection. • Still have probs with DHCP Hi, I've read thru the posts here and tried the fixes w/o success. Here's what I have done: 1. I have a SBS 2000 with 1 NIC. Default setup. 2. If I set static IP, I can see / login to server. 3. DHCS, WINS, DNS all running w/o errors. 4. Added 003,006,044,046. to DHCP scope. No change. Even tried 015. No change. 5. Tried 046 with 0x1 and with 0x8. No change. 6. Problems exist with workstations running XP Pro and also Win98. Static IP's work fine. 7. Tried to remove autosense from NICs. No change. 8. ipconfig /renew give me an error: unable to connect to your dhcp server. request has timed out. I'm running low on ideas :) Any help would be really appreciated. -Mark Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132678

        • Adding TServer to SBS Fax Modems? I am in the final stages of purchasing a new server to add to our SBS as a Terminal Server. My Question, do shared faxes from the TS sesssions go through the SBS box or the TS box. Do I need modems on the TS box for fax or RAS? M Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132665

Please configure the subnet. 2)The QoS RSVP service is not started for error 0xc0000005. 3)The admission control service QoS(RSVP) was stopped in unhandled mode This problem appear for the X times. The folloqing action will be expletated in 0 mls: No operation. The server isa a PDC with Win2000 Sp4. The Networking adapter is compliance with request of QoS. Are installed: - QoS Service - Utility un network adapter (the transalation in not correct "Utility to plna package QoS". From Console Qos - under administrative tools" I leaved the standard value and, after tehe error, I tried to configure the subnet: - I can insert only subnet with prefix 32 "192.168.1.1/32" (other prefis are not accepted) but the problem is always present. My network is static and configured with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 and differente group under a private address 192.168.1.x for server, 192.168.1.2 for client, ecc.. Where I wrong?? What can I do?? • Office chaotical Pinging problem I'm running my 13 PCs educational computing class for about 2 years - I have 1 Windows 2000 Server running as Domain controller and NAT and 12 workstations runing Windows 2000. I was making my cleanup re-installation on all the workstations and server and then something went wrong - a lot of ICMP (Port:0 - I supose it's Ping reply) messages started to travel around local network and soon after that outside my office on internet. The only way to stop it was to install the firewall on my server(that's when I first saw the amount of the connections and IPs where the messages where delivered-all the 159.*.*.* and 192.*.*.* domains - Latvian Locales), but it helped just to make the server work properly otherwise it hanged up (even mouse wasnt responding). But the firewall made some other headacke for me - there was no internet on any other computer than server, once I removed the firewall - the pinging started again. One night with only server working on the internet, there was ~50Mb of internet traffic only of ICMP(Port:0) Packets (~212bytes each). So what could that problem be, I can't work already for 2 weeks (nobody can in my office). Please Help! Tag: TS - Run App on Logon not always working Tag: 132641
