Dear SBS Gurus,

What options do I have when the 16gb limit has been reached and
exchange 2000 automatically dismounts the databases?

Machine is an SBS 2000 machine.

Thanks in anticipation,

George Zaroubi

Search the Microsoft Knowledgebase. There is a registy fix that will
allocate you an extra gig of space. You will then be able to mount the
database. Once this is done i would advise you to delete any unwanted email.

Also any user accounts that are disabled or no longer needed with mailboxes
delete them. If you need the email or would like a backup of there mailboxes
download a program called exmerge from microsoft. Export the mailboxes to a
pst file then delete the users. I would also advise you to schedule
maintenance on the database within 30 mins of getting it back and remounted.
This will perform an off line defrag and hopefully free up some space.

How to temporarily increase the Exchange 2000 16-gigabyte database size
limit
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=813051

Exchange 2003 SP2 will increase the store limit to 75 GB. This is due out
in second half of 2005 and is slated to be available for SBS 2003 a few
month later. So, if you can limp along for another few months, you might
consider upgrading to SBS 2003.

Note that using this *must* be considered a temporary measure. If you hit
the 17Gb absolute limit, your exchange store will be unrecoverable.

For the record it will perfrom an online defrag not an offline one.

If you need to recover white space and shrink the database (which you should
do if your going to remove mail and mailboxes to get back into operation)
then you will need to perform the offline defrag against the database while
exchange is not running and the database is not mounted, you will need free
disk space of 110% (i think) to perform the operation

Thanks guys!

I have checked Microsoft's site and I am adopting the said method
followed by an exchange offline defrag.

Will let you all know how it goes.

Have a nice weekend.
