I have just installed a new SBS 2000 box on a separate
network to replace the current SBS 2000 box, and I have
realised that I entered a 10 user licence key but left the
dropdown as 5 users.

How can I alter the 5 user to 10 user?

As we have 25 users on the domain, I have the 3 5-CAL
packs from the old SBS to make it 25.

Help please.

Probably not the recommended solution, but as long as you
have the correct amount of licenses (in other words, you
are being all nice n legal about it), you can just disable
the license logging service - that way you can have the
correct amount of users on there without getting those
irritating little messages saying you are nearly out of
licenses.

I'm confused here: What exactly is what you did? what user license key?

If you have (3) 5-CAL packs... I'm not sure how you want to get 20 CALs from
there. Maybe I'm missing something?

I have a SBS 2000 product licence key (the long series of
letters and numbers) for a 10-user licence. When you go
through the installation wizard of SBS 2000, it asks you
for the SBS2000 licence key and Outlook 2000 client
licence key.

Next to the SBS 2000 licence key, there is a dropdown (5,
10, 15 ...) and I left the dropdown as 5 NOT 10.

I have 3 packs of 5 CALS, so the 10 + 15 = 25 user
licences in total.

I will lack 5 users as I did not specifiy 10 users to
begin with!

Hi dear,

It is posible to do it, just be carefull to not miss the
proper order of floppy disks. As you say you had use them
before on another SBS, it will tell you that hardware is
changed and doesn't let you go forward but there is a phoe
number under EULA paper that you can call them and they
will give you the unlock key.
But be carefull if you mix the order of your floppy there
is no support for it and you have to buy them again as it
happened one time to me and I lost 1 floppy disk that I
can't add it to system anymore.

License question... by skc

Are you sure that will work?

So if I do do that, then I will always see 5 licenses when
I go to "About" in SBS Admin Console, and I can re-add my
30 users with no problem?

As far as I knew, about 2 years ago when we had our 11th
user on a 10 user licence, SBS simply did not allow that
user to be logged on/added to AD (can't remember which way
round). Is this correct...or mybe it is another problem I
came accross when we had the SBS deployed here as we had
lots of teething problems in the beginning.

Skc,

I must be crazy... but I have never seen a SBS2k 10 CAL version (product
key), neither the drop down box that you are mentioning. Are you talking
about Small Business Server 2000? not other version/program? How do you know
it comes with 10 CALs (and not 5)?

AFAIK-> Small Business Server 2000 comes with 5 CALs and any other
additional CALs have to be installed by using CAL disks.

Turning off the license manager is ok for troubleshooting... but it is not
the solution.
