A user cannot login to his laptop, using his standard domain based network
user account when he is disconnected from our SBS2k network. He can login
if he has only been disconnected for a few minutes, but if he tries to login
say 2 hours after pulling the plug, it won't work with a message "The domain
is unavailable".

Looking in the Control Panel's User accounts, when the laptop has been
offline, none of the network based accounts are listed, but when the lapptop
is connected, the user accounts, domain based, that have been specificaly
assigned to the laptop (including this users) are shown. The user is aPower
User in the SBS2k Network.

Users always used to be able to log in when offline. Has upgrading the
laptop Win XP Pro from SP1 to SP2 changed something? Is there something on
the server that has changed with Microsoft's recent patches?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Rob

Interesting thanks, but unfortunately not it.

Reading the article it does say that this issue has been fixed in SP2. The
laptop is running Win XP Pro SP2.

It is probably an issue related to syncronisation of files for off line use.
I know the lappy user was playing around with those early last week, and the
logon wasn't a problem before then. I just can't see what mght have been
changed that makes the domain become forgotten after a few hours of non use
and disconnection, yet plug back iinto the network and all is fine, until
the next disconnect.

As this doesn't really seem to be specifically an SBS issue you may get
someone with an answer or similar experience in the XP Pro Newsgroups.
