This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on the lottery!!  - Network Property Box Open I know this is the 2K site but when I try reinstall of 2K I get the same thing. No help over there. I'm upgrading a SBS2K to SBS2K3. I can't get past the "check" phase as it says I have an open Network propery box-which I don't. The same thing happens on 2K setup. Could it be open and I don't know it?  - Promote and Demote Domain Controllers in Windows 2000 hallo, i have read a lot about PDC and ADC. One think is still not clear to me. Let say my PDC will go away and ADC will be the only server on my domain remaining. How will i promote ADC to PDC before installing new server, or how to install new server to connect it to ADC and make it PDC?  - Mapping Shared Folders Whenever I try to map a directory, I go through the process of mapping a drive by <right-click> on My Computer on the client side machine. Once I try to map the directory, I select <browse> on the Microsoft Windows Network, I see my domain name. However, whenever I click on it, it doesn't access any information. However, when I try to run the \\arsprime\downloads it does access the share directory. For right now, I have only set up only two client machines and only one is acting this way. Here is some information: My NETBIOS is enabled. It only happens to one machine. It does work on one machine. My Browser Service is running. My DHCP is running. My WINS is running. My network environment is a domain server running in a SBS 2000. My Main server is Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 The two Clients One is Windows Professional 2000, which is the one have the problem One is Windows 2003 Server it is working fine. Yes I can see my Domain name Network Neighborhood (My Network Places), but once I click on it I get a message say "advanceerp is not accessible. I get some respones saying I should check that my DNS is setup correctly, to be honest I set it up but I don't know if it is setup correctly ornot or is there such a tool will help me to test my setting is correct. Any information that can help me resolve this problem or any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  - Networking problem I have a Windows 2000 Server PDC with SP2 installed. Seven workstations running an assortment of Windows operating systems and three JetDirect Network printing devices. On Tuesday morning none of the workstations running 98SE, ME, NT or the JetDirect devices were able to logon to the domain However; the XP and 2000 Pro machines were able to logon but not able to print. The server is able to print to all devices. I can ping each workstation and print server and I can VPN into the server from all workstations. I'm not sure what has happened or how to fix the problem.  - email attachment changing All computers on my network are XP pro. All computers send and receive email fine (SMTP), excepth for this one computer when its sendind emails with attachments. Whenever we send an attachment from it, the attachment is discarded and a file winmail.dat appears. The computer has been scanned for viruses. Any help?  - Win2K server directory ACL's and propogation... How can I assign a new security group to a top level directory and only have that new group's permissions propogate to the lower level dirs? I do not want any other rights from the top level dir to propogate down to child objects - just this one new group I added at the top level.  - VPN to SBS box (Urgent) I have the following situation Office SBS2k Server + ISA on DSL (configured to act as VPN server Remote location 1 (or more in the future) workstations on DSL which I want to VPN to the serve I would like to use a VPN capable router to establish the VPN connection as a client to the server (so the workstations don't have to do VPN directly).  - FYI... NTBackup and RSM Here is a little "give back" for this board, as I have received valuable help many times.. Using the oft-posted batch file techniques (example below) for automating NTbackup provided us (after many hours of trial and error by an "old" coder) with a pretty nifty backup solution...only to find that last weekend it QUIT WORKING! Problem? As part of an attempt to chase away a different problem, I had upgraded the firmware in our Seagate DDS3. Without warning me, SBS2k created a "new" drive so all our scripts began failing. Resolution? Used RSM.exe /view to obtain the new drive GUID and pasted that into the scripts. Viola! All is well again...almost. The NetPrintQueue2Fax printer driver is a very old NT 4.0 Kernel Mode printer and because of this it will not install on SBS 2003 because the default policy of *any* Windows 2003 installation is not to allow installation of these old drivers. If you want to install GFI Fax you must change the policy. Here is how you do that: 1. Open Group Policy Management and open the Default Domain Controllers policy. NOT the default domain policy. 2. Double-click Administrative Templates, and then double-click Printers. 3. Right-click Disallow installation of printers using kernel mode drivers, and then click Properties. 4. In the Setting tab, click Disabled, and then click OK. Explanation of the 'Disallow installation of printers using kernel mode drivers' Determines whether printers using kernel-mode drivers may be installed on the local computer. Kernel-mode drivers have access to system-wide memory, and therefore poorly-written kernel-mode drivers can cause stop errors. If you do not configure this setting on Windows Server 2003 family products, the installation of kernel-mode printer drivers will be blocked. ****this is what goes wrong with GFI Fax**** If you enable this setting, installation of a printer using a kernel-mode driver will not be allowed. My conclusion is that GFI is not really ready for Windows 2003 with the old NetPrintQueue2Fax printer driver but I have had succes with the above solution. The second problem is that GFI Fax expects that Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks is running. On a default SBS 2003 this is not the case so you have to switch to Automatic start.  - Adding a shortcut to all users desktops I have SBS 2000 as the DC and want to be able to add a shortcut to a file on the server onto everyones desktop in the company. They have a mix of WinXP and Win98 W/stations. I've tried to add a line to the SBS_logon_script.bat file that changes directory to the current users desktop and then copies linkfiles to the desktop of that users PC. When I run this logon script file manually from a W/station it adds the shortcuts and works fine but when I logon it doesn't add them. Its as if the logon script doesn't run on logon. I've just realised too that the path I've specified for the users desktop won't work for the Win98 PCs so how do you test for OS?  - Mapping Shared Foloders Whenever I try to map a directory, I go through the process of mapping a drive by <right-click> on My Computer on the client side machine. Once I try to map the directory, I select <browse> on the Microsoft Windows Network, I see my domain name. However, whenever I click on it, it doesn't access any information. However, when I try to run the \\arsprime\downloads it does access the share directory. For right now, I have only set up only two client machines and only one is acting this way. Here is some information: My NETBIOS is enabled. It only happens to one machine. It does work on one machine. My Browser Service is running. My DHCP is running. My WINS is running.  - Failure to join an SBS2000 domain through Wifi I have installed a Belkin AP that successfully gets its IP address via DHCP. My Sony Vaio laptop using XP Professional normally connects to the network through a wired Ethernet connection. When I atttempt to use the Wifi connection I can see and use the network printer successfully. I can see the server and any other machines that are active on the domain. But I cannot get into the data on them. I assume that my Laptop has failed to join the domain properly but cannot figure out how to determine what has gone wrong and then fix it. [Reading another thread suggests to me that the other NICs in the Vaio may be the problem because they are active with an IP address in the same subnet. If this is the case (a) why does the printer work?  - disaster recovery Hi i am trying to find out the cheapest and quickest way to get my server up and running in an event of a failure. What do you think of my solution? I was thinking i should buy a second hard disk. Image the disk i have now and then restore the image on the new drive and keep it in the cupboard. Keep regular backups of my current data and in the case of a failure, pop the second disk in and restore the data and continue as normal.  - Web site hosting Yes I know....Gasps of horror......but it is not as it seems. We have SBS2K fully patched, and running well with a Vigor 2600 router. Port 80 is closed on the router, and will stay that way. Between the two (in the range 192.168.1.***) we have some wireless (802.11b) connected PC's. It was thought too much of a risk to bring them "inside" (192.168.16.***). They predominantly access the net, which they do quite happily via the router. If they need any server files, they "come in" via VPN. Anyway because of interference, we need to do some channel planning and testing. A download speed test if useful to check wireless connection speeds. At present we use a web based speed test, which 1)is limited to the ADSL speed, and 2)the results are dependant on other router traffic. So I thought why not use the IIs in SBS as a speed test site. I've run the ICW to enable web traffic. Got a site running, with a download file. Only problem is I can only access the site from 192.168.16.2, i.e. internally. No matter what I do I can't get correctly to the page from 192.168.1.2, which is obviously what I want. I'm using the "default web site". I do get a page on 192.168.1.2, but when I update the "home" page on the server 192.168.16.2 picks up the changes with a refresh, but 192.168.1.2 stays with the old page, even with a refresh. I did look at smallbizserver.net, but I don't think I need to get into headers, and shouldn't my running the ICW have sorted ISA? Anyway are there any FAQ's or similar, to take me to the basics of getting a simple site functioning on the external server address? Or any pointers to what I'm doing wrong!! Dear All, I am wondering if someone could shed some light on this problem, one of our Win2k clients have a user - Billg and as per all other domain users the Client setup disk set 2 shortcuts on the desktop for the Home and Company Shared Folders. We had to remove his profile from the Win2k client as an application was playing up when he logged on, after deleting the profile from the client, then logging back on to create a new Profile. Is there a an easy to way to sync up the server with a National time Server? And then have the workstations, all XP Pro, on the network sync up the Server? Or perhaps a better question is, why is the server off by one hour? This network has a Novell server on it and I am wondering if the Novell server is setting the time for the network.  - Dial-in tab in Active Directory users and Computers not working Hi there, In "Active Directory users and Computers", after selecting any user, when I click on the "dial-up" tab I get this message: [Dial-in Page error] -------------------- Could not load the Dial-in profile for this user because: The network path was not found. .. -------------------- After clicking OK the tab displays "Dial-in page initialization failed". All the other tabs are fine including the ones that don't come naturally such as Exchange. It used to work. Remote access actually works for users that had dial-in enabled earlier, the issue is that I can't grant dial-in permissions to newly created users because the dial-in tab is broken (or can't revoke dial- in rights from existing users). Nothing in the event log; restarted the service; restarted the server; tried to log in as a domain admin user other than administrator. No change. I also tried to disable and re-install and configure the routing and remote access, no luck. I also tried to install Active Directory users and Computers on an XP workstation, then the dial-in tab is not even there.  - authentication being required on the LAN I have seen a KB article on this issue before but now I cannot find it. Situation: Newly rebuilt SBS 2000 server running ISA and Exchange 2000.. Win2kpro workstations. Any user except Administrator gets an authentication dialog box when accessing either I.E on the workstation or Outlook on the workstations. This should not be happening in the first place. But in the second place, filling out the three line dialog box with the correct password does not work anyway. Dialog box persists. Mapping back and forth from server/to server no problem. Note: the dialog box shows " Enter Network Password" and the top. Just underneath it shows " Firewall 192.168.16.2" This is the internal NIC address on the server. A firewall on the LAN? I have tried blowing away and reinstalling the user accounts.No joy. ISA is in it's default configuration. Tried also on the ISA server/properties adding BASIC authentication to the outgoing web requests. No joy here either. Should I try right click and delete the user profiles folder under "Documents and Settings" and reinstall the user accounts to resolve this? TIA for help.  - Event View not showing any events I checked the Event Viewer today, and there was not one event listed in any of the categories within Event Viewer. Hi all, currently running an SBS4.5 server with Win2k Pro Clients. Each has a roaming profile. How can I copy the profiles across to the new server which is being installed with SBS2000 so that when a user logs on for the first time all the previous settings are there for them?

So basically if I set up the same share, put the profile files in there and point each user to their designated folder it should work? :)
