I have tried this but when I switch of the SBS box things are not working.
Being doing it after hours so maybe a bit tired....lol

Flattened 2000 server (file server) and looking for some ideas before I
attempt again.

All workstations are XP. The idea is if there is a failure of SBS box,
granted email and internet are down but working files are put onto file
server so staff can continue to work.
On paper the concept is straight forward but as my experiances have shown I
am missing something. The biggest problem was getting validated on the
Domain if a pc was switched off and the SBS box was switched off. Being XP
they could logon to the pc but accessing the file server shares didn't work.

Anyone actually got the scenario set up ?

TIA

Hi Bill,

The memberserver would have to be an additional domain controller with DNS
installed.

Hi Marina

Thanks for that, I was aware and did install but not sure why it didn't
work. A list of my errors to look at is also DHCP.

Thought it would be straight forward but been reading up over the weekend
about secondary DNS. I think my mistake was trying to do configurations on
the second server but it seems all must be done on the first.

DHCP on the 2nd server is not really necesary (in fact you can't have it
working at the same time as the DHCP of the SBS box). I would set it up, but
not activate it. However, I think you might have to change the DHCP scope
options to add the 2nd DNS server.

Also, make sure you make the 2nd server a GC (Global Catalog).
