Hello all:

Running: SBS2k, ISA (2 nics), Exchange sp3

I am experiencing an internal server error message (windows, not http 500)
when accessing OWA from the internet or LAN. I have checked the Exchange
settings, Event Logs, etc. and it seems to be an IIS problem.
http://server/public and http://server/exchange behave similarly. The side
frames load, but nothing in the middle - just 'loading'. Users are able to
create and send mail, contacts, appointments, etc. through OWA, but not view
anything posted.

According to the MSKB, I have examined the net time (set correctly and
synchronized), and the directory permissions (both file and IIS) seem ok. I
believe it is IIS because in Exchange Manager, I receive error message:
'Operation failed due to an internal server error. ID no: c1030af2;
Exchange System Manager' when attempting to expand the public folders. My
understanding is that this is a virtual connection through IIS.

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Scott

Have you used IIS Lockdown and/or Urlscan? Have a look at article 309508
XCCC: IIS Lockdown and Urlscan configurations in an exchange environment.

Marina,

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that information in the first
email. IIS Lockdown was applied about 10 months ago and has been working
fine. I did check the URLscan logs and found no references to any of these
problems.

Anything else?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

So you did have a look at that article I mentioned? How about 311862?

Another thing if the 309508 doesn't help you (haven't had the need to do
this, but it is in my database):
Open Metabase Editor (it's a tool that you can download from Microsoft).
Open LM / W3SVC and this Data name: InProcessISAPIApps
Verify that this Data contains the absolut path to davex.dll and exprox.dll
Reboot IIS.

Problem fixed - maybe solved. I never figured out exactly what the problem
was, but after a long day I didn't care much any more (after sleep I still
want to know, though). So, I went through every KB article, TechNet
troubleshooting guide, and Google search, but could not resolve this issue
or find the exact problem. But since SBS is made for those small and great,
even a dummy like me ( ;-) could work some magic.

What I did: First I ran the IIS Wizard (didn't check to see if it solved
the problem - oops!). Secondly, I ran the Internet Connection Wizard.
After this, I checked OWA and everything worked properly... End of story.

Thanks for your help!
Scott
