Hi All:

Sorry about the OT, but with the volume of posting I thought at lest =
some one has experience and/or knowledge they will share.

A new server with a 2.4 GHz processor has Intel's BOIS Hyper-Threading. =
Even though only one physical processor is installed, the OS sees 2 =
processors due to the Hyper-Threading. The second processor is a =
"virtual processor". White paper from Server Vendor (IBM) claims a 40% =
increase in processing speed compared to turning off the =
Hyper-Threading. =20

Question is, If I later add a 2nd physical processor, will the OS then =
see 4 processors, and will this 4 processors effect the OS License? =
What about a 3rd or 4th processor? (The server can have up to 4 =
physical processors.)

TIA

Phil S.

SBS supports upto 4 CPUs. It doesn't understand the difference between
a physical CPU and a HT virtual CPU though.

So, until you exceed two physical CPUs, you can safely leave HT on.
Once you get to three or more physical CPUs, you'll have to turn HT off.
