Hello,
One of our customers claims that he can't install SQL 2000 Enterprise on SBS
2003 Standard. Is that possible?
SBS 2003 Standard doesn't support other application?

Thank you.

I'm not sure... but doing that wouln't be a very smart move. Why don't you
get the SBS Std to Premium upgrade? The price tag will be much less than
what you want to do and it would be fully supported.

Having said that... I believe that in order to install SQL on a Win2k3
server it must have SP3 or later. That might be the problem.

Hi,

SQL 2000 Enterprise edition is not supported and cannot be installed on SBS.
SQL 2000 Standard edition, however, can be installed and is supported on SBS
2003 either by upgrading to SBS 2003 Premium Edition or licensing SQL 2000
Standard by itself.
Please see the SBS 2003 FAQ webpage at the below URL for more information:

One other possibility to add to what David mentioned would be to use the SBS
Transition Pack to transition away from SBS and then you should be able to
install the Enterprise Edition.. Otherwise, if they already own SQL Server
2000 Ent. Edition one other option would be to setup a Windows Server 2003
machine as a member server and install the SQL Server 2000 Ent. Edition
there..

You can find more information about the Transition Pack here.

Here are a couple of other related links as well..

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/overview/default.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/features/choosing.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/techinfo/planning/ChoosEd.doc

Keep in mind that depending on the functionality you are wanting/needing
from SQL Server 2000 Ent. Ed. that you may need a different OS underneath..
