That was it ! thanks Gizmo, It was the Anti-Virus
Software, we used Sophos. The bit about disconnecting the
mailboxes was because of the fact we'd tried removing
Exchange from AD and re-installing, and it doesn't like it
one bit. No, it was definately the AV Software. We took a
chance and uninstalled it for a week and exchange ran as
normal. We then re-installed sophos and everything carried
on as normal. We also made sure that the AV was not trying
to scan drive M: - Hope you crack it

Good point to reiterate... Do not let AV software scan M drive and also do
NOT back it up either..
