I think I know the answer to this already but I will ask. Have a current
SBS2k server, wanted to test SBS2003 premium edition. Is there a way to test
both on the network at the same time? I am assuming not but trying anyway.
Owner wants SBS2003 to be rock solid before deploying and he is waiting for
more service packs. I want to deploy both servers on the name network, both
running on two different servers. I was going to test the SBS2003 offsite
but it would be nice onsite. I am assuming they cannot be on the same
subnets. How do I test both at the same time? Thanks, all.

As long as the AD domain names are different, and only one of them has
DHCP installed, they will co-exist.

But the "owner" can be reassured that SBS2003 *is* solid, and there's
absolutely no need to wait.

'cept the Exchange things (if the AD domain names are different, or server
name, or anything, and I DO mean anything) and some XPSP2 issues, which are
easily overcome.

It's coincidental that Jeff has posted a description of his 'migration'
stuff just a short time ago, migrating SBS2k3 into your existing domain
would be handy.

What I can't help with is the old server and the new coexisting for any
time, we've done 'drop in replacements' for existing SBS2k to new SBS2k3 but
haven't needed to have the two running together, yet.

There's probably some other things about 2k -> 2k3 which will bite you
(Exchange mailbox limits, hmmmmmmmm, what else?) but it's possible through
either the white paper or other methods.

Two independent SBS servers on the same physical LAN will co-exist
happily, as long as there's only one DHCP and both have different AD
domain names. There'd be no interaction between them whatsoever of
course.

From the original post, I was assuming that the SBS2003 would simply be
running as a test for a while, and that they would then do a proper
migration once they were satisfied that SBS2003 was stable. I was not
expecting that the SBS2003 would be a "production" machine, but that it
would be blown away once the test period completed. Perhaps I could
have been clearer on that in my response.
