One of the SBS2k disaster recovery whitepapers mentions ghosting the SBS2k
system partition as a means of backup. Is this a supported option? If so,
what's a suitable application and version to do that? I need to change the
raid array that contains the system volume from raid 0 to raid 1, and will
have to recreate the array to do so. I would like to avoid an OS reinstall
and restore from backup, if at all possible.

Thanks,

Joe Welna

Some people have reported success with Acronis' TruImage Server software.

Joe,

I have successfully done our SBS2k with Norton Ghost 2003, but Symmantec
doesn't officially support it on raid. Their oficial stance seems to be,
"maybe it will work amd maybe it won't, but we're not going to support it
either way." If you take that route, BE SURE to run an integrity check on
the image filr before you move on. (I skipped that step once on my computer
at home, and found out after the hard drive failed that the DVD burner was
writing corrupted files, even when Ghost said it had completed
successfully.)

Dave,

Thanks for the input. Sounds kind of iffy in light of my need to change the
array from raid 0 to raid 1. I probably need a more expensive product, and
even so, I have my doubts due to the raid change. I think I will bite the
bullet and do the standard re-install. Ugh!

Thanks again,

Joe

well, if your last ditch effort is to do a re-install anyway, does it hurt
to try something else first, and if it doesn't work you still could do a
re-install. The only thing you lose is the time and effort, but you wuld at
least know.
