What Mark said. Seems like there would be many more secure ways than FTP.
If you don't need the synchronization to be automatic, some kind of web
storage facility would be ideal. I haven't looked at these in a while, but
there must be many. Your ISP probably allows you to park a certain amount
of data on their server, but there must be many more secure data storage
facilities available for a small monthly charge.
If you decide to go with FTP, you don't need any freeware - Windows 2000
Server comes with FTP Server, although it's probably not installed by
default.
