I have a client with three workstations and a small
business server. Recently one workstation was having
problems accessing the shared network drives. After
uninstalling the firewall client it can access the
network drives fine. I have tried static and dynamic
IP's manually setting the ISA server in the client
configuration and having it automaticly detect. Nothing
that I change makes a difference. I also tried
reinstalling the firewall client and it can access the
drives fine until I restart the machine and then it
fails. First it comes up with a logon screen and none of
the usernames and passwords work, not even the server
admin password. And I get an error saying that I don't
have permission to access the drives. Can someone help
me please?

Hi,

It sounds like there might be another Winsock Layered provider running on
that client machine.

303379 Firewall Client Conflict with Third-Party Layered Service Providers
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=303379

Make sure you install ISA service pack 1 on the server (that should include
the mentioned fix), and then re-install the Firewall Client on the affected
machine.

If the problem still persists you will have to start looking at the
installed software, especially anything related to networking, web, etc.

Depending on the client you may be able to use MSCONFIG to perform clean
boot troubleshooting. You can also go through Add/Remove programs, Task
Manager, and so on. Sometimes disabling or stopping the offending process
may not be enough and uninstallation of the package would be the only way.
The most common piece of software that will trigger this behavior is
New.Net.

Regards,

Damian
