I recently had a user copy some business critical files to his folder on the server. He then had his system fail (Power supply hit mother board). Now he's trying to access those files we have on the server with his laptop but he cannot do it from any other PC in the building. I can see them from the server as admin and from my laptop logged in as him, but cannot access them either. Has there been a link to the old machine that is preventing us from getting these? I've checked and rechecked the sharing and everything seems fine.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the ntfs-permissions as well?

Yes. I checked and verified no "deny"s were selected.

Check again, and give that user full control over that folder.

I have done that already. I have checked, double checked and then checked again

Is there any possibility that doing a copy/paste from hard drive to file server, that a link is made from PC to files? I've never seen this happen in Windows 2000 Server.

Under the Advanced button, have you check Permissions? - and have you
tried taking ownership?

Yes, I tried that as well. Neither the Administrator, nor my own account were able to open a folder or a document. Again, I can view them all, but "no touchy"!
