    - Help needed with my domain Here's my situation. I have SBS2000 with Exchange in a Central office - ROOT DOMAIN. There is another small office that has a W2K Server and 6 users. However, that office is not a domain. The server is logged in locally. The users login to their machine locally, but the server does provide some file and printer sharing that users have access to. My goal is to connect those users to our domain and have them log on our domain back at the central office. So I need to create a Organizational Unit in AD on our root domain.     - Bombarded with Fake MS Mail I am getting bombarded with emails containg the false security patch from MS, and the qmail notices of failed deliveries. My AV is catching all of the bad files but still getting the main email (123 today and counting). Trying to control this with rules. IS there another way to stop this mail from getting to me?     - baby steps Hi! I think I'm back to taking baby steps again. I have a SBS2k PDC. I have a Win2k Server as member server (print server, terminal server in application mode, file server). We have a Netopia router. I can't get VPN or terminal services to work. Idealistically, I'd like the user to term serv in to the member server with their user rights. My question is this. If I point the router to the member server's ip address for port 3389, how is the login verified with the AD is on the PDC? How can I create client setup disks when the laptop has no floppy drive.     - Symantec AV autoscan I thought I configured the AV scan to exclude the M:\ and other folders, but when I looked in the evnt log, there was all kinds a problems relating to the m:\ dirve. Event ID 1000 Source USERENV Windows cannot access the registry information at \\domainname.co.uk\sysvol\domainname.co.uk\Policies\ {31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol with (1231).     - Log on via VPN Hello, I am trying to figure a way for users at a remote site to log onto a domain via a vpn that goes through a dsl connection to a SBS 2000 server. The remote pc's are obviously not joined to the domain right now, and a user will sit down and click the vpn shortcut after they have logged on locally. I would like them to be able to sit down and log into the domain automatically. I hope this makes sense. I know that you can use a dial-up to connect to a remote network and log into the domain, but I have never set anything up that would use a vpn connection to log in. The reason behind all of this is to be able to monitor things like internet access (or block it altogether), and keep them from being able to tweak the local pc. Any ideas? Thanks!     - Help! - swamped by spam (w/ viruses) Just within last day or two I've been bombarded with virus laden spam all related to MS Security Updates/Notices/Bulletins etc. I'm averaging about 10 to 15 an hour! To make things worse my virus program (Panda AV) flashes alert notices everytime one comes in, which I have to manually close. I haven't figure out how to disable this yet. I thought about trying to set up some filters in Exchange but just about every email address is different! Any suggestions (short of disabling email). This is the worst it's ever been!     - Slow starting SBS, no exchange Recently built SBS2000 (sp3) P4 (2,4) 1024 MB ram 120 GB (2x RAID1) on Promise 4000 (PCI) SIS network adapter (on mainboard) for EXT (router) 3com network adapter (PCI) for LAN int. UPS Onstream IDE (on sec IDE) tape backup Pioneer DVD/CD player Video on mainboard. External USB modem for sending fax. NO other software than SBS and Mcafee Groupshield. The SBS starts slow (more than 10 minutes) and Exchange is NOT started (ofcourse mcafee Groupshield also not) Manual start of Exchange AFTERWARDS, no problem.     - An alternative POP3 connector, anyone???.. Hi all, I've got SBS 2000 at several sites, and at every site, the POP3 connector that comes with Exchange doesn't work. Every time the connector goes to d/l mail, it stops. I've set the recovery to recover constantly, which keeps it up most of the time, but mail seems to be going missing, which I assume is from the srevice shutting down while mail is half dealt with. I've got around this problem at a few sites by using CHimera's EFS (A fantastic little program), but this only works for global POP3 accounts, and this client, has individual accounts (and this can't be changed, for various reasons). Can anyone suggest (freeware or not) a POP3 connector which I can use for individual POP mail boxes, which I can then use to pass the mail to Exchange? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Followed all instructions as per this newsgroup and everything is running smoothly exceptly lately one XP workstation cant access mydomain.local and one win2000 workstation cant view any site in IE Both return the same IE error # 403 and then refer to ISA has forbidden access to this site ( 12202 ) We have a couple of websites blocked ( kazaa etc ... ) using the ISA server and these blocks work on all workstations.     - Windows NT 4.0 user profile migration to SBS 2000 I bought a new server with SBS 2000. I have the new system all set up, but I don't know how to migrate users from my Windows NT 4.0 server (different domain) to the new server. SBS 2000 won't let me set up a trust. When I create new users in SBS 2000, I lose all of their profile information from Windows NT 4.0. I'd rather not lose all my groups and user data!     - Deleting badmail We have a SBS server and it has started to play up. Back ups have started to fail and the CPU and the memory are being flagged in the Event Viewer. I have noticed A LOT of files in the Badmail folder and have found that I should periodically delete these but the system wont allow me to do it. I cant open the badmail folder and can only access the files by doing a SEARCH for *.bdp. When I try to delete then I can only do less than 30 at a time and sometimes I get "Cannot read from disc" errors. I have tried using scripts but they dont work either. I am open to ideas!     - Opening particular TCP Port How can I open a particluar tcp/ip port in SBS2000? The SBS2000 machine is running Exchange 2000 and ISA2000 and the ISA firewall is enabled. The machine has two NIC one for internal and one for external. I have already followed these steps listed: 1. Open SBS Admin Console 2. Expand ISA Server (Server & Arrays - Server Machine - Access Policy) 3. Right click on the IP Packet Filters and then New - Filter 4. I go through wizard to finish it. Can anyone suggest a good way of being able to get all incoming and outgoing mail into a mailbox as well as the individual users mailbox, I know this is not a good idea but necessary. Q2. Also as by default Exchange sets up a distribution group and to my surprise it also assigns it an Internet address, is a simple matter of removing the SMTP mail address from this group to disable this feature?     - An ISA question.. re: dialup application I have posted this question in one of the ISA groups and so far no response, so I thought I would hit the trusty SBS group for a possible answer. Scenario: Customer uses SBS with an ADSL connection for internet access. Client machines behind SBS with ISA enabled uses a dialup application to connect directly to a non-internet connected service which uses TCP/IP and port 443 for connection. Problem: What is happening is that the modem dials, connects and then tries to communicate to remote port 443. Of course the firewall client then busily tries to route the traffic out through ISA and onto the net. Because the IP address range is not internet connected, the request times out and the modem connections fail. Of course by disabling the FW client it will get through but this is not practicle. (More so if it is NT4 SBS that use Microsoft Proxy.) What I need to know is if there is any way to set ISA to ignore/not route the traffic for the modem on the workstation when it is trying to establish a connection to this particular service.     - Public Folders contacts I have another newbie public folders question. I would like authorized users to be able to add global contacts to a public folder. I logon to a client PC as administrator and open the address book. When I try to add a new contact to the public folders I receive a message stating "You cannot create entries for this address book". So I look in AD and by default there is an "Internet Newsgroups" public folder already installed. First of all I cannot see this folder from Outlook. Second, Under the client permissions option for this folder the "Folder Contact" option is grayed out. So even if I could see the folder I assume I would not be able to add a contact. You get the picture... So what am I doing wrong? All I want to do is provide my users with a public folder to store their global contacts. Be able to see this folder in Outlook and provide security to specific users to maintain the folder. Seems simple enough.... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.     - Question about KB Article 292822 and DNS Well as far as I can see we are still having to use the registry edits even on SP1 integrated versions of SBS 2000. I'm not too thrilled about still having to do these edits by hand but hey, at least it works. My question is regarding this section: 1.e "you need to create two A records in DNS: one in the root of the domain for the domain name (for example, a blank host record in your company.local zone), and an A record for your Global Catalog (for example, your SBS server) in gc._msdcs.domain name.com."     - Public Folders Error I am configuring a new install of SBS 2000. After running the IIS configuration tool from the ToDo list, I am unable to access my Exchange "Public Folders" in AD. When I click the public folders icon I receive the following message. The connection was refused. Ensure that your HTTP virtual servers are all started and check that the WWW service is running. ID no. c103b401 Exchange System Manager I have confirmed the virtual servers and WWW service is running. If I go back into the IIS configuration tool and click "Restore Defaults", I am then able to access the public folders. Can anybody explain to me what is happening here and how I should procede...     - modem is not disconnecting after use Hi i have setup our sbs 2000 server as per kb article re: one nic card and dial up connection to the internet. I have got an internal ESS superlink +M modem. I did not have the original drivers for this modem and found one on the net. After clients have finished using mail or internet explorer, the modem does not disconnect. It only disconnects after faxes are sent. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is so? My idle time for the modem is set to 5 minutes but the modem still will not disconnect. I had put in the wrong scope for dhcp and had to give my clients static ip addresses but i have since fixed this and they no longer need to have a static ip address.     - Mac issues in a SmBusSvr network I have recently assumed the responsibilities of a SmBusSvr2000 office. They are graphic intensive and have 6 Mac's for design purposes. They also have 17 PC's as workstations for other daily activity. The Mac's share files via a Mac volume on the SmBusSvr - no issues. The Mac volume is for sharing of graphics production files that all are working on - no issues here. Owners want "all data" on "all" systems backed up nightly to a separate "Backup Server". Problem is - none of the Mac's can be browsed via the Server. I seem unable to map any Mac's Hard drive. So other than the Mac Volume share, I can not see anything Mac related. How do I bring the Mac's into "My Network Places" so they are viewable ?? How do I set up the nightly backups of the Mac hard drives ?     - Printing and Terminal Services I'm having a problem printing with terminal services. We have a program, OMS, that we run from terminal services. We want to install a Point of Sale retail location offsite. The OMS program prints directly to LPT1 and I cannot seem to get TS to redirect that print job to the workstation's LPT1 port which has the recipt printer hook up.     - Multiple Static IPs I need to assign multiple static IPs to my SBS box and also to three member servers within the network. I'm not so hot with the IP routing technicalities but would appreciate any help. This could be more directed to the Cisco 801 router we're using rather than the SBS but I'm not too sure.     - Reject spam using Reverse Lookup Recently I have noticed a lot of ISPs using reverse dns lookups to block spammers. I know I can perform a reverse lookup in exchange manager. But doesn't this just identify if it resolved correctly or not? How do I set up my exchange server to REJECT emails that don't resolve correctly. I know there may be some legitimate email that could be affected but it looks like it would block a ton of spam from actually getting to my server. I already block domains using exchange manager and the rest with GFI MailEssentials. They both work great. However, I would prefer to reject the emails that don't resolve, too. Yeah, yesterday afternoon I got one and since I knew it was a fraud I
searched MS and Symantec to see why I never heard of it and it came up
blank! I called Symantec and they had just started seeing it show up on
their screens. I emailed everyone I knew but can't these script kiddies at
least wait until the weekend so my Mondya is hectic and NOT Friday?!?!!? I
was hoping for a light day today.
