    - Port forwarding I believe ISA 2000 is unable to do this, (before you say there is no router....yet) This is a delicate site and do not want to be seen as not having the knowledge so wanted it to be confirmed or does someone know how it can be done? Server internal IP is standard 192.168.16.2. There is a web based camera on 192.168.16.5. Internally 192.168.16.5:1024 brings up the web cameras so need external IP xx.xx.xx.xx:1024 forwarded to internal. Any ideas ?     - SBS2000 server generating DCOM errors and multiple security events. Hello all, I have a SBS2000 sever that has been acting very strange as of late. The first problems began 2 weeks ago when no computers could authenicate to the server and this was in the system log: Event Type: Warning Event Source: MRxSmb Event Category: None Event ID: 3034 Date: 12/8/2004 Time: 6:13:39 AM User: N/A Computer: DC01 Description: The redirector was unable to initialize security context or query context attributes. I thought maybe it was a problem with AD, so I ran through the steps in this JSI FAQ: http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBQ/tip8300/rh8320.htm All tests indicated there was no problem. Then it happened again two days later. If I reboot the DC, the problem is corrected, but to do that in the middle of the day makes the VP cranky. I checked DNS, DHCP, SNTP, group policies, permissions to log on locally, NTFS permissions to shares and drives on the DC, NetDIAG, DCDiag, all with out finding any errors in configuration or operation. I fear the worst in that the AD is corrupted and last night I went through the steps in the following KB articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258062 I backup the system state, perform the Integrity check and the semantic analysis, both complete without errors. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/232122 I perform the offline defragmentation successfully and reboot the server. Now I get the following errors: System Log... The macine account DC$ is locked out, has an incorrect password, or does not exist. 2. The user SYSTEM/NT AUTHORITY, SID=S-1-5-18 is locked out, has incorrect password, or does not exist. I have found the following info about resetting the machine account password. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q260575 It mentions the need for another DC, but I only have the one DC. I have not found any info about modifying NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account. Also, now if I run a DCDiag, DC fails test systemlog, but passes every other test. I have exhausted all resources I can think of to find the source of this. Please, if anyone has seen this before post your suggestions. I apologize for the length of this post, but I want to present all info I have and outline what I have tried to fix it. How can have the "Add License Wizard" be installed individually and not via the "Complete Setup" step after SBS 2003 installation finish?     - Please advice Hi, I need to create a program or do something in order to trace emails comming in from a specfic domain. The email is comming to 6 Users Helpdesk. I need to keep track what time the email arrived and how long it takes for a User from the help desk to reply to the email. How can I do that? I have some knowledge in VB 6, I have looked for a sample code on where to start, but found none. If I am using VB 6 do I need to do this on the Server with Exchange ?     - SBS 2000 and Exchange Mail Problem Hi all, I have an SBS 2000 Server with Exchange which has been happily running for > 18months with no problems. On Monday am i was made aware that no-one was receiving external mail but internal mail was okay. On further investigation, i was abvle to send to an external source and when this source replied it landed in the ISP mailserver ( i was able to view using netmail). In checking the event logs i found the POP 3 connector was working and downloading to Exchange but Exchange is returning the following error - event id 4032 ndr status code 600 error code 00002745 -.     - Power Users We use auditing SW in our organisation which runs every 30 days. Problem is the SW would appear to attempt to write to the registry on the local PC which tells the PC not to check for another 30 days when the audit is complete. If when the audit runs i am logged in as a DOMAIN USER then then the process runs in task manager (I can see the process when i hit CNTRL - ALT - DEL). The process starts at 5MB but continues on to consume 256MB of memory and then i start to get virtual memory errors and the PC also runs extremely slowly. Thie processs will run all day without completing. If i kill the process from task manager then the PC functions as it should. However as the audit is not completing then the process starts all over again next time a DOMAIN USER logs into the PC. However, If i log on as an adminitrator then the audit process runs in task manager and consumes 5MB of memory for about 2 minutes then kills itslef off and won't run again for another 30 days. 1 - I don't want to have to do this every 30 days as there are 40 PC's in the org running this. 2 - I also don't want Domain users to have local admin rights as the PC's are locked down in order that users can't gain access to the registry , Run commmand, Control Panel etc.. Question 1 - Is there anyway that i can give all domain users rights to this application only to write to the registry of the local PC, without having access to anything else in the registry. Question 2 - I would rather not have to give DOMAIN USERS Power User rights as this would lead them to installaing stuff i don't want them to have access to.     - Slow sending of e-mail Hi all, been noticing a strange phenomenon with our e-mail over the last couple of months. We run Exchange 2003 SP1 as part of SBS Premium. Using ISA2000 as our firewall to the Internet. When we send e-mail it is taking an abnormally long time to be delivered (sometimes hours) externally and internally. I have checked our server (logs, settings, etc...) and nothing appears out of sorts. I have checked with our ISP and DNS host (SBC) and they say nothing is wrong with our domain name records. Any clues or ideas? It is really frustrating especially if someone is waiting on an e-mail and we have to resend it via another account other than our office account. TIA.     - SBS 2000 Proxy Problems? I have a SBS 2000 system with 25+ users on it. When the network was first constructed, the opinion was that they would need to restrict the internet connection to prevent unauthorised surfing. I personally had no part in the construction of the network and am not too familiar with win 2k SBS. The users all have IE setup to run through a proxy server, which is running on the SBS. This setup has been working correctly for some time now (a year or two). Just recently, however, the proxy started to malfunction. No one can get e-mail (POP3), the internet is extremely slow (when it works at alll), and it only does this when logged into the domain. If you log into any of the computers locally and setup to run through the router, no problems. I have gone through as many of the wizards as possible on the SBS and can't find anything related to a Proxy server or a filter. In add/remove windows components-Networking, the proxy (COM or DCOM was it?) isn't even installed. I'm still new to any IIS functions, but the only thing i see in the IIS setup is a default website (never been modified apparantly). I can post more info if someone can tell me where I should be looking for errors pertaining to the problem or know what could cause this or can show me a MS document on this I would be extremely greatfull.     - shared .xls is locked for editing... We have a "shared" Excel 2000 spreadsheet that various users can access. Whenever one particular user has it open, and another user attempts to open it, it always says that a completely different user (other than who actually has it open) has it open for editing. Today for instance, this particular user I am referring to above had it open ("jnewitt"). Another user ("slockwood") attempted to open the spreadsheet as well using her Win2K terminal services session, and was told that the file was locked for editing by user "slockwood" - the same user who was attempting to open it in the first place. Clearly incorrect reporting by Excel! I made sure she did not have a lock on it at all by checking system resources on teh Win2K server etc... and she did not. I finally discovered who actually did have the file open and it was the "problem" user referred to above. Why would Excel always be reporting the wrong username for this user? Where is Excel actually obtaining the username that has the file open from?? We have had problems with this user before - but only this user!!!. It will never give his username if he has it open - it is always a different username. Usually it shows as "draft4" - a user that does not even exist on our systems any longer!!! This user runs an XP Professional machine (upgraded from WIn98) and logs onto it locally using his username "jnewitt". Like I said earlier, anytime he has a spreadsheet open and another user attempts to open the same one, they always get a message that "user draft4 has it open for editing" - of course draft4 does not even exist as a user - and is not a local user on his machine either. In fact I searched his entire registry for any reference to "draft4" and found none. Somewhere it is buried on the machine and Excel is using it, thinking that draft4 is the logged on user!!!     - Can't set the "trust for delegation" flag On my SBS2003 install, I'm logged on as the Administrator, on the server itself. I have recently added a new member server (Windows 2003) to act as a second file server and also be an additional controller in the AD. The server is based in a small office some 20 miles away. Every time I open up the properties sheet for the new server, and tick the "Trust computer for delegation", I get the following error message "Your security settings do not allow you to speicfy whether or not this account is to be trusted for delegation". In addition, Event 577 is logged inthe security log (entry listed below) I've googles on this quite a bit, and as far as I can tell... a) I am a member of the domain admin group and the schema admin group b) I've created a GPO for the default domain policy, and under "computer configuration", "Windows settings", "Security settings", "Local Policies" and then "User Rights Assignement", I have explicity added in "Administrators" to the "Enable computer and user accounts to be trusted" and also the server's machine name (PS-SVR$). Server has been rebooted recently. I don't know why it didn't work first time, my other SBS2003 network has a member server acting as a second AD controller, and it works just fine. Can anyone suggest anything that I can do? Otherwise it looks like a reinstall of the SBS server.     - Pop3 email checking Hi I just installed Trend client server messaging on a SBS2000 server. Finally got everything working fine. Thing is previously I set up the workstations to check for Email at their pop3 emailboxes directly rather than going through the server. But now since Trend has this spam thing built in I want to use the pop3 connector on exchange (exchange servicepack 3 ) to check the pop3 mailboxes and then route them to the user. However when looking at the settings is there no way to configure the connector to check for mail at an interval less than 15 minutes???? I would rather not have to chose between getting mail right away and getting clean email. Also I put in the info in the pop3 connector however it wasn't able to dowbnload the mail getting an error.     - Smart Host I have a â??Smart Hostâ?? relay host (by name) defined under â??Outbound Connectionsâ?? of the SMTP server properties on my SBS 2000. Out bound messages are not being sent to the smart host and they are being delivered directly by the SBS SMTP server.     - Revisiting Spam relaying Hi, This thread was started about a week ago, and I needed more information. I don't think anyone is viewing the original one anymore, so hopefully reposting it is not too far outside of the correct protocol. My last post was: Thanks for the info. I am not sure if this article works for my configuration. The MX record for my domain points to my Exchange server. I do not have pop accounts at the ISP. I also do not use my ISP's smtp server for outgoing messages.     - Remote Desktop Connection - exclusive login. This question doesn't relate entirely to sbs2000, but it does relate to domain management on a sbs2k domain. I am setting up a WinXP Pro station with RDC at the office for users to login to to do some work. However, I noticed that if someone tries to login while another session is in progress, the first session is dropped without warning.     - Pop3 Collector trying to send to external addresses Using SBS2000 with POP3 collection. Each userâ??s external email user@ourdomain.com has a POP3 box at our ISP. Each user has a mail store on exchange to which their mail is delivered. All of a sudden incoming emails from external sources are behaving strangly. If from hotmail I send a message to user@ourdomain.com and someone@anotherdomain.com our server picks it up from the pop3 box, delivers it to user@ourdomain, and also tries to then resend it externally to the other recipient. Tracking the message in Exchange shows: "SMTP: Message Delivered Locally to multiple recipients" "SMTP Store Driver: Message Delivered Locally to Store user@ourdomain" "SMTP: Started Outbound Transfer of Message" "SMTP: Non-Delivered Report (NDR) Generated" In the details of the 1st line above it states the address of our user and the external recipient, which it should just be ignoring! Then on the third line its saying it wants to send it outbound â?? so realises its not a local recipient. And then of course fails as the sender was external. It says the sender is getting is getting an NDR but I havnâ??t actually seen one myself from testing â?? it is sending me as admin a copy though. Now nothing has changed on the server as far as I know. And the pop3 boxes look ok. I know strange things happen if it collects a mail from pop3 and there isn't a single recipient in the to/cc that matches a local user but this isn't the scenario here. The only other thing that might be interfering is Trend Scanmail but Iâ??ve not changed the config of that for ages either.     - exchange not recieving inbound smtp Thanks Marina, sounds like I had the NIC's setup wrong. When you say the DNS on the External nic should point to our server IP, do you mean it should be pointing to 192.168.1.90? If so, how do I do this? I can set it manually but when I rerun ICW it wont allow me to put an address that is in the LAT. Surely the DNS should be pointing to the DNS's provided by my ISP (213.120.62.101, 213.120.62.102)?     - URGENT exchange email Hi we have sbs 2000 with exchange. As of Friday, any email coming in cannot be openned, and now we can't even send internally. So we can recieve incoming, but can't open the messages. We get an error that says "Can't open this item , the messaging interface has returned an unknown error. An OLE registration error ocurred. When I try to send an email I get a "Exchange server sending error 0x80040154" It is almost as if we have reached some limit somewhere that is preventing exchange from working.     - Modem Setup Remote access I have set up remote access for dial-up and it works just fine for users to access emails and Palm Pilot. However, if the server reboots (Planned) the modem does not reset itself for "Waiting for Call", the remote access wizard has to be re-run.. Any Ideas as to having it reset upon reboot ?     - Exchange Not Recieving Inbound SMTP Yes I have ran the ICW and checked the MX records which seemed to be working as the server was recognised as mail.domain.com. A couple of hours later I recieved a non delivery report from our server to the external email account I was using for testing which appeared to be generated by exchnage server and was stating the delivery status to be 5.0.0.     - SBS 2003 / ISA / Web Access We're installing SBS 2000 together with ISA server. No client machines, yet, we're still battling with getting the server right. The only user is the administrator. Having installed the server (but before installing ISA) we have internet connectivity. We then install ISA (from the premium edition disk) as a result of which, and after running ICW, and logging off and on, we can't see any web pages. The ADSL modem connects successfully to the ISP, but the only thing we get in IE is a 502 error. Now, we're guessing we need to do something to allow web things through ISA but we can't see what. Can anyone point us in the right direction. We didn't have this problem with SBS 2000 (with ISA) which seemed to work without problem, and which is why we can post this message.     - Exchange Not Recieving Inbound SMTP Hi, Im having a rather annoying problem getting exchange server (sbs2000) to recieve inbound smtp. Here's a brief summary: New Server with a new SBS2000 installation, we're using ISA Server (which is working as a proxy and firewall) and exchange server using the smtp virtual server. Internal email works fine, and sending external email works fine too I can't seem to get inbound email to work. Server has 2 nic's, 1 connected directly to ADSL router and server has a static external ip. The other nic is connected to the switch. I had my ISP change the mx records to point to the external ip of the server, this worked fine as I was able to navigate to OWA using mail.domain.com/exchange. I tried several things but still cannot recieve email from the internet. Port scan shows port 25 as open however I cannot telnet the port either externally or internally. Things I've Tried (not in order): Done port scan via grc.com and port 25 is stated as open Enable Packet filters/Disabled them Secure Mail Server Wizard Tried disabling ISA Firewall service Uninstalled McAfee Groupshield Reinstalled ISA Server Reinstalled Exchange Server Restart ISA Services after changes Restart Exchange Services after changes is there anything I am missing? Have I overlooked something? Does anyone have any suggestions as what I could try? Any help would be much appreciated as I seeming to be making no progress whatsoever.     - Access to "external" computer Hi All I need to set up an SBS 2000 to allow access to a computer on the external side of the server. The server has the standard 2 NICs, one internal and one external. Clients connected to internal and external used for broadband internet (and now this computer). We need to have a cache that stores specific things that it updates from the internet. It's complicated but suffice to say that I don't have any control over this aspect. The external NIC on SBS has 10.81.10.1 as it address. The external PC has 10.81.10.250 I have already setup: 1. Site & Content Rules an "Allow ALL" access policy (this is what I use when testing only) all destinations, always, allow, applies to any request, all HTTP content 2. Protocol Rules an "Allow ALL" access policy (this is what I use when testing only) All IP traffic, always, applies to any request 3. IP Packet Filters There are lots of filters. I have setup one as: enables, predefined HTTP Server (port 80) Local computer and remore computer I have tried different settings The external network does not appear in the LAT nor the LDT. I can Ping the 10.81.10.250 from an internal client and the server so I know it exists and that the server is forwarding the ping requests. I tried 10.81.10.249 and it didn't work (as I expected). Should I have an entry in the Network Configuration - Routing list. If so what are the settings? Please help as I am really stuck. After 5 frustrating hours I still can't get it to work.     - Event Log consolidation This may not be the best group to post this question in, but this is an active group that I occassionally lurk in so it will certainly serve as a good start. I work in a 350 workstation, 20+ server Windows environment. We are looking for a _good_ Event Log consolidation tool - preferably one that is more GUI based than manual. I have looked briefly at GFI's Even Log Monitor and wasn't too impressed with it but maybe I didn;t give it enough time. We don't need a lot of fluff. Any recommendations/experience? Are there any good free utilities out there that anyone has used that will allow you to recover/salvage data from a hard disk that has had it's partition removed?     - TS update CALs will not register I received some TS CALs on the XP transition plan from microsoft but they will not register in the TS license server running on my SBS 2003 box. When I enter them through the TS license tool I get the error 'unable to validate the following codes'. I typed them in correctly and in capitals. Any ideas why this isn't working?     - ArcServe v9 We have been using this for around 14 months now without any problems. We backup a member server on our SBS domain (the SBS has it's own tape drive and runs ArcServe2000 for SBS) and also two other clients. These clients are running dBase for DOS which is a 16-bit application. I have installed BAOF (SP5) and Client agent so that the member server which has a LTO2 tape drive accesses the machines using IP (just normal of ArcServe). The clients (2 PCs called A and B) are backed up in turn. PC A contains the program and the data is held on PC B. When PC A runs the program to access datafiles on PC B, then when the backups hit PC A (to backup the whole machine) we suddenly get Event ID:50 in the logs of PC A (Delayed Write Failed) and the program on PC A stops responding.     - Event Errors for Perflib Event ID 1008 Hi all, I have an application event which pops up evey few seconds and is clogging up my event log. How do I stop it happening? Source : Perflib Event ID : 1008 The Open Procedure for service "SQL_ANYWHERE" IN DLL "c:\sqlany50\win32\sqlactrs.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. We are having sporadic problems with multiple page faxes received on our
Dell server with Dell supplied modems. Often, we receive page 1, and do not
get subsequent pages known to have been transmitted. The fax modem picks up
OK, gets page 1, but apparently drops the rest. We have played around with
modem wait times, etc. with no improvement. We are considering replacing
modems with USR V-Everythings.

Appreciate any suggestions.
