    - Seagate STT20000A - Problems with compression Hi, I've got a problem using hardware compression with a Seagate STT20000A IDE Travan TR-5 tape drive. I am using the backup program that is native to Windows 2000 Server and can't get more than 10GB on a tape. These tapes should handle up to 20GB of data if compressed. I have selected the 'use hardware compression if available' option but the backup fails when 10GB has been written. Has anybody else had this problem? Seagate STT20000A (Firmware 8a51), Windows 2000 Server (SP4), Windows Backup. I have tryed another ISP (#2) and auto disconnect work well because there isn't traffic in input (if all client have IE close). With SBS 4.5 we use one dialup configuration for exchange and another for proxy. But now I have SBS 2000 and I cannot set one ISP for exchange pop 3 connector and another for ISA. I cannot use ISP #2 for download pop mail from ISP #1 popserver because i must call his number for connection. There is only ICW and where is the settings maked from ICW about the remote connection ? He logs on ok to the server but gets access denied - no permission, user not found etc. He logs on to any other PC and gets to the shares fine. The computers are all erroring out saying "RPC server is unavailable".     - SBS security question Recently switched from DSL to a cable modem and noticed the DSL setup on the Linksys router didn't have a static IP address, it was using a host name. After switching to cable I now have a static IP address. I setup the IP address on the WAN side putting in the static IP, DG, SM and DNS settings, my concern is this, is the server more, less, or the same concerning security after switching from DSL to cable? I ran a port scan on the router and verified all ports are blocked and there's no response to ICMP.     - Old SBS (4.0, 4.5) on new hardware I am tryign to get Small Business Sever 4.0 to install over a new PowerEdge 2600 by installing Window NT Server 4.0 first, with all drivers in place. My first attempt, with a 4.0 GB initial partiion (NTFS) and all drivers in place (RAID, SCSI, NIC) failed on teh first reboot when SBS Install/Upgrade ran. I got a BSOD for invalid boot device. The first partiion was les than 4 GB and boots with no problem to install NT 4.0.     - Member server not seen by vpn connection Hi! I'm assuming I don't have my member server configured correctly. I can vpn in and connect to shared drives on the sbs box, but all files was moved to the member server approx. 1 year ago. the member server is a file and print server. Playing around yesterday, I shared a sbs folder just to test with and the vpn connection was happy. I unshared it as it isn't necessary--only used for testing. I think this proved, thanks to Les Conner, that the sbs box and vpn is configured correctly. My problem is none of the shared folders on the member server is seen by the vpn connection. All internal computers work fine. the folders on the member server are "mapped" as drive letters for each workstation. Any advice could be greatly appreciated. At first I thought maybe the servers were confused because we were wrongfully using the same password on each server. I changed that yesterday. The sbs box shows up under domain controllers in AD. The member server is seen under computers in AD. At this point, you probably have to ask questions because I don't know what other information may be necessary.     - Backup Issue Interesting Situation...Running SBS 2000. I recently did a check on the backup logs; BACKUP - TOOLS - REPORT; and found that the only log I have is from 10-24-03. Unless I overlooked something, I thought that this was the place to check the status of a backup job. So I looked under the scheduled jobs and looked at the properties; everything seemed fine. The only change that I can think that was most recently done was the Administrators password was changed on 10-29; that should not have caused the backup log to go away...? I also moved back the backup time by 1/2 hour on 11-28 and updated the login password. Questions 1; Is this server being backup and the logs are not visable?     - Restricting access to public folders One of my sites has several public folders for contacts, etc., and right now everyone has access to read/write/add/delete to these folders. They now are asking me to restrict the ability to update these folders (and create new folders) to only a few users, with the rest having read access only. I went to Properties on of the public folders and went to Client Permissions, expecting to find a way to assigna security group as 'Publishing Editor', for example. But it appears I am limited to doing this on a suer by user basis. Is there a recommended way for making permission changes to public folders? Also, if I wish to restrict the ability to creating new public folders to certain people, how do I do that. All of this is because on more than one occasion, someone in trying to doublic click on one of the public contact folders, accidentally clicked dragged the folder, ending up with a copy of that folder underneath another folder.     - External RAID5 for data Hi All, Not strictly an SBS question and also, to those in the know & that have actually done it, *probably* a dumb one:- Say we have an external RAID5 array with a number of NTFS partitions for our data installed under SBS2k. We buy a new server and get SBS2k3 running on it. We want to decommission the SBS2k box and run the SBS2k3 box in its place; what's the scenario for simply connecting the RAID5 array to the new box and all data being available via it? The data and directory structure etc will presumably come across intact, but what of security privs etc? Presumably, it's simply a case of re-applying shares and security privs? Or - heaven forbid - is it case of reinitialising the RAID5 and restoring the data (surely not!)? On a related note, say it's not an external RAID5: what if it's a RAID5 internal to the original SBS box? Assuming hardware compatibility, can the drives & data be 'moved' in the same fashion or is the container etc info consequently lost (and thus the data) with the controller, thus requiring a container rebuild and data restore?     - Symantec Ghost Dilema Hello, I have a situation that I am trying to come up with an answer. We just installed a SBS Y2K server for an educational client that would like to refersh the XP PC's after every semester with an orginal version of that XP PC. There are a total of 16 PC's in this class and the students will be doing class work on these PC's. When the semester is over we would like to restore the PC's with an original image of the PC. The problem that comes up is since the pc's have Windows XP, each pc has it's own individual product key and in my mind this make cloning a problem with symantec ghost. The PC's are all identical and I do not want to make 16 different images to load back especially when at some time I have to apply product updates or add other software.     - Repost: Router on Internal LAN range - need to use AS WELL as ISA... Hi all, Hopefully not too strange a query here. We have a nice working SBS2000 set-up here, Internet connection via 2nd NIC and Broadband Router. We also have a PBX which also acts as a Router and also provides some nice CTI functionality. Query is this: We [or more specifically certain users on the LAN] need to be able to route out via the PBX's integral router to certain customer sites. To access the full CTI functionality of the PBX we need the PBX sitting on our INTERNAL LAN range. By default obviously, any packets not destined for the internal LAN get routed outwards by the Server - hence no routing to clients via the PBX... What I've done thus far is this: 1] Moved the PBX to our internal LAN [was previously sitting between the external NIC and the Broadband Router - worked fine in that set-up but less CTI functionality] and assigned it a fixed IP address on our LAN which is reserved in the DHCP set-up on the SBS box. In the Router config on the PBX I've entered a default route pointing at the Server's internal NIC address so that any packets not for any of the PBX defined routes/addresses get passed to the SBS box. 2] This has enabled the full CTI side - so far, so good 3] Re-ran the ICW and Internet access is working fine from both Server and LAN clients 4] I've also amended the DHCP scope to have the PBX/Router as another Router and moved this to be first in the list of router addresses provided via DHCP 5] From a standalone laptop without the ISA client, I can route to clients via the PBX no problem - so it *appears* that the DHCP/routing side is working fine 6] From LAN clients we *can* now ping remote clients using the PBX router, whilst still having full Internet access via ISA and our broadband connection 7] However, from my PC with the ISA client I cannot route via the PBX using the PBX management software 8] If I connect a standalone laptop to our LAN side as a DHCP client, I *can* use the PBX management software and route via the PBX router - only change is that it does not have the ISA firewall client installed I *think* that the ISA client *appears* to be the likely thing I need to configure somehow but I'm unsure how to do so - can anyone provide any pointers? What I want [ideally] is to have all packets from any LAN clients going to the PBX/Router initially and if they're destined for one of the remote clients on that side, get routed by the PBX. Hello,
We have a SBS2000 with exhchange running. Recently we've
got a problem. In de agenda of a client there are tasks
sheduled with a reminder. When we diasable the reminder
checkbox with the tax and save this agenda item it seems
like this action isn't saved. So the checkbox for the
reminder stays activated. So now we've got a lot of
reminders on a machine for tasks that are already done.

Does anyone knows this problem?
