My SMTP outgoing post is not outgoing and I can't understand why. The
Internet Connection Wizard falls over with an apparently meaningless error
message. I hope someone out there can help me.

I have SBS 2000 patched to SP1a. Until yesterday, both incoming and outgoing
mail was moving. During the course of yesterday, I realised that no post was
getting to the external addressees though post was coming in. The SMTP
virtual server cues were showing empty but mail was not hanging up in users'
outlook mail boxes.None of it has been delivered.

I tried to check/reset the configuration using the Interconnect Connection
Wizard. This rapidly completes the internet setup but falls over - after a
long delay - when trying to configure Exchange Server. The error message
says look in the icw.txt log. This is very long, but right at the end it
says

Error 0x80072030 returned from call to GetBOConnector().

The wizard then asks me to ignore this or abort. When I looked this error up
in the MS KB, I found only article 280038 seemed to refer to this problem
but this said that I could 'safely ignore' the error.

There is no SMTP connector in my Exchange Server setup (and I can't remember
if there used to be. I have tried manually creatijng and configuring a SMTP
virtual server and, although it looked alright, I still can't test traffic
out through the door.

My boot drive (a 4 Gb partition) has only 300Mb left and I was wondering if
some of my problems are caused by lack of disk space. I have tried
reinstallying the SP1 patch. None of this works.

Is this a known problem - and does anyone have any suggestions. How feasible
is it to reinstall either Exchange or, if necessary, the whole SBS
operation. What woujld I need to do to safeguard my data in this situation?

Any help or pointers very gratefully received.

Paul - Coventry UK

I have moved offices recently and had a lot of trouble with moving my ADSL
connection. For two weeks I had only dial-up connectivity. In consequence, I
was messing around with the POP3 connectors and SMTP configurations to try
to lash up some kind of a service.

Hmmm...(no confirmation if this actually was a fix for the stated problem)

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&threadm=nQT8a.48700%24Ge.1021444%40twister.rdc-kc.rr.com&rnum=14&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dsbs%2BError%2B0x80072030%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26start%3D10%26sa%3DN

and yes, 300 MB left is asking for trouble. You probably need to move to a
bigger HD once you get your ICW issue figured out..

Thanks for this. It does indeed work.

On the partition size thing - I had around 700MB free until I installed SBS
SP1a which seemed to consume nearly half a Gigabyte. This did not include
archiving the rollback files 'cos I deliberately stored these on a different
drive.

I've have shifted the dynamic stuff I know about (eg Exchange server
databases, print spooler directory) on to different drives but the unused
space on the boot partititon continues to reduce. Is there anything else I
might do about it or, alternatively, is there a non-destructive way of
increasing the partition size (without paying a fortune for server versions
of Partition Magic)?

Imaging software like Ghost 2003 (less than $50) might be able to help you
here. Reports in this NG indicate that it works with most RAID5 hardware
(though not supported by Symantec), if you have that kind of configuration.
If you have a single drive or software mirrored drives, Ghost will also
work. It allows you to image the drive (using the parition to image
method), then reformat and restore the image while resizing the partitions.
You'll need a spare drive (IDE or SCSI) to store the image during creation
and restore. An external USB 2.0 hard drive is handy (and fast) for this
but a spare internal IDE will also do the job. The imaging software (in
conjunction with your normal tape backup) will also help you overcome the
SFN/LFN issue if you ever have to do a bare metal restore of the server.
