We have Small business 2000 on our server but do not have
the exchange part set up. We we're told by our systems
fellow that exchange will NOT link different operating
systems (xp & 2000)

Exchange 2000 will allow Win9x, WinNT, Win2000, WinXP Pro computers to
receive internal and external email and will also allow all users to share
public (i.e., common) folders via Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002. It will
even allow users to view and/or administer other users mailboxes. So, I'm
not sure what your "systems fellow" is talking about.

I'm also not clear as to what you mean by "exchange will NOT link different
operating systems (xp & 2000)". Could you clarify this?

I have accounts connecting to SBS2000 using Macintosh OS 8 and 9, Win
95, Win 98, Win ME, NT4 workstation and server, 2000 Pro, Server 2000,
Server 2003, and XP Pro. Even a unix box. That covers most operating
systems.

Don't understand what you mean by "Link"

If you mean cannot host mail for access by mail clients on those systems,
than I'd suggest you immediately get a new IT Person.

The Exchange server on SBS 2000 can host and deliver mail to and for XP,
2000, ME, 9x clients provided those clients have the appropriate
Outlook/e'Mail client applications.

If you have the Exchange Server then your XP and 2000 users can use the
full richness of outlook with public folders, shared calendars, Delegated
authority to mail and calendars
shared user calendars etc...
